Wherever there are U-M recruits -- GoBlueWolverine will be there for you!

Today Tom and Don took on the onerous task of trekking to San Diego for another Nike Camp. For the second week in a row the two had to battle sunny 75 deg. weather to scout recruits first hand for you! Such dedication! Coming are reports on GBW's Top Ten Performers (those who are possible U-M recruits), written under virtual seige conditions by the seaside hotel pool.

First, GBW's Top Performer.
Thomas Eyes his Prey
First off let us say that we saw yet ANOTHER brand new football facility. San Diego State's brand new football building is classy and beautiful, as is their brand new pracitce facility (no need for an indoor practice field in San Diego). And their new weight room is the second finest we've seen (second to ... Texas A&M's).
Okay, here is the run down on the beautiful sun-splashed spring day.
First our Top Combine Performer
Our player of the combine: Cornerback Kevin Thomas
from Oxnard (in the San Fernando Valley) Rio Mesa. Reminded us of: Anton Campbell
Thomas Goes Up
for the Block
We first discovered Thomas at last month's SoCal MSL Combine. Once again Thomas measured 6-0, 170 lbs., and he told us that on this day that he ran a 4.4 sec. 40, a 4.03 sec. shuttle, he had a 37 inch vertical jump, and he did 17 bench press reps. (good for a DB). And in the QB/WR/DB drills he was the one dominent defensive back, the one DB who could bump-and-run a receiver right out of a play. Although a bit slender looking at 170 lbs., his play had physicality to it. We talked to Kevin Thomas a couple times during the day. He said he now has been offered from Cal and Washington State. Originally from St. Louis, he grew up a U-M fan -- but, he told us, Michigan has not been to his school yet. After watching him today, U-M could change that soon. By the way, Thomas started his high school career at Ventura St. Bonaventure, and his transfer to Rio Mesa may be working against him a bit as far as recruiting goes.
