Basketball Recruiting: Visits Galore!

GBW has confirmed a number of recent visits by the basketball staff. One thing is certain, the Michigan coaches have been very hard at work.

 • GBW got word from sources yesterday, and later confirmed today that Michigan head coach Tommy Amaker would be in Toronto to visit high flying athlete Jevohn Shepherd. As we reported last week, Shepherd was absolutely fantastic at an open gym session that assistant Charles Ramsey was at, so it doesn’t surprise us to see Michigan’s head man making the trek across the border. (For those that missed that report, click here). The visit reportedly went very well and we’ll have much more on it tomorrow.

 • We recently talked to Michigan Mustang coach Norm Oden and Benton Harbor coach Ramsey Nichols and confirmed that coach Amaker made his way over to see 2005 SF/PF Wilson Chandler in action. How much more interest Michigan will show remains to be seen, but we’ll follow the situation closely.

 • Michigan assistant Charles Ramsey made his way out to Verbum Dei High school to talk with the coach about class of 2006 PF Matthew Shaw, according to the 6-8 power forward in a recent conversation. The young post man turned heads at Las Vegas Showcase earlier this month…an event in which a Michigan staff member was present. His performance caused’s national recruiting analyst Dave Telep to write the following: “California Elite post man Matt Shaw has a big time touch for a power forward. …Shaw is a legit face-up power forward who doesn’t neglect his interior responsibilities. He’s got touch on his jumper which is reliable from mid-range and he’s got the shoulders and frame to work it inside. Nice player and a high-major no doubt.”

 • One more recent visit that we’ve been able to confirm was to Brentwood Tennessee sophomore Brandan Wright. A few months back he named a top 5 that didn’t include Michigan. However, as we reported when we broke the news of his visit to Ann Arbor back in October, he has family all over the state of Michigan. (For those that missed those reports, click here and here) Therefore the Wolverines shouldn't be discounted this early in the process.

We’ll have much more on all of these visits (and others as we confirm them) very soon.
