Recruiting Bits and Bites

Things are heating up already and summer isn't here for another month. GoBlueWolverine Magazine and TheInsiders are on top of all the recruiting news and this week has been packed, with more yet to come. Here is a recap of recent events and a reminder of what's in store for the weekend.

While not at all a surprise, the timing was a bit earlier than expected. Offensive lineman Aleksey Lanis from Crenshaw High in Los Angeles made his pledge for the UCLA Bruins on Thursday. "I just wanted to get it over with and make my decision," Lanis, who is UCLA's fourth committment, and second on the offensive line, told BruinReportOnline. "UCLA was my first offer and I want to help them get back to where they should be."

Of course Michigan picked up a pleasant surprise commitment of its own when wide receiver Laterryal Savoy from Mamou, La. pulled the trigger for the Wolverines. There is some speculation as to whether Savoy is a solid commitment, especially if home-town school LSU jumps in with an offer. But Savoy assured GBW that his word is solid.

One of the top offensive lineman in the country is Barrington, Ill big man Dan Doering. Offers and letters keep pouring in for the blue chip talent but Michigan remains near the top of his list. Doering has already set up official visits to Notre Dame and Iowa, and all indications are that he will also use one of his remaining three visits to stop by Ann Arbor. ""Nebraska, Notre Dame, Iowa. Wisconsin, Northwestern, Michigan, USC, UCLA, Tennessee…basically everyday I average about 20 letters that get to my house," Doering told recently.

Muskegon defensive lineman Terrance Taylor is letting everyone know that Michigan is on the top of his list. "I feel comfortable at Michigan. If I had to decide today, there would be a 100% chance that I'd be going to Michigan," Taylor told Chris Pool of TheInsiders. But it isn't over yet. "I haven't been anywhere though and I'll take me official visits to compare some schools," Taylor said.

Is James McKinney going to be a Wolverine? He told GBW recently that, "I am no longer committed to Michigan." There have been assurances from some close to McKinney that he will still sign with Michigan on Signing Dat 2005. Stay tuned to GBW for the latest up to date information regarding McKinney's recruiting.

Later today will have reports and photos from the Penn State Nike Camp as well as the Berkeley TheInsiders/MSL Combine. Some of the top prospects expected at the PSU Nike include New Jersey stars Jerome Hayes and Brian Cushing. If they do make an appearance, GBW will bring you the latest from them as well as others. It is expected that the Berkeley Combine will have a couple of Michigan targets that have yet to break onto the scene. If so you can be certain GBW will have the story.

It will be a busy and informative weekend so don't go too far away.
