Offers Pouring in for Kevin Thomas

When defensive back Kevin Thomas from Rio Mesa High School in Oxnard, Calif. first broke onto the scene at the MSL/TheInsiders Combine in Long Beach earlier this year, GoBlueWolverine Magazine predicted he would be a player worth keeping an eye on. GBW spoke with Spartan Athletic Director Brian FitzGerald Friday morning, and he let us know just how much attention Thomas is receiving.

GoBlueWolverine Magazine spoke Friday morning with Oxnard, Calif. Rio Mesa High School Athletic Director Brian FitzGerald about defensive back Kevin Thomas. "Right now Kevin has offers from USC, Michigan, Washington, Washington State, Cal, Fresno State, and Arizona," FitzGerald said. "I spoke with Michigan coach Ron English when he was here and he made it clear they needed defensive backs and they were looking seriously at Kevin."

FitzGerald is also the track coach at Rio Mesa and he said Thomas was one of his star sprinters as well. "He runs the 100 and 200 meters, and the 4X100 and 4X400 relays," FitzGerald said. "He'll be running in the sectional final tomorrow (Saturday)."

Thomas lit up the scene at the Long Beach MSL/TheInsiders Combine and the San Diego Nike Camp, both times with GBW in attendence. At the recent 10th annual Ventura County Football Coaches Association combine Thomas topped the list of players, clocking a 4.35 in the 40 and a 4.0 in the shuttle. He also recorded a vertical leap of 38.1 inches.

Thomas transfered from storied Ventura County powerhouse St. Bonaventure during the middle of his sophomore year, and Rio Mesa has been a grateful benefactor of that transfer. "He's a class act, there is no trouble in him," FitzGerald said. "He's a full qualifier and he's open to what is in front of him."

GBW will have more from Thomas later, stay tuned.
