Johnny Sears at Fresno Edison Photo Shoot

GoBlueWolverine caught up once again with Michigan's newest (5th) commitment, Calif. CB Johnny Sears, when he was with recruiting guru Tom Lemming yesterday (Sat.) afternoon. We talked once again to Sears, to his DB coach Tony Perry, and to Lemming.

Recruiting guru Tom Lemming made a stop at Fresno Edison yesterday (Sat.) to do a photoshoot with the three Edison prospects, including Michigan's newest commitment:

Johnny Sears (USC camp stats: 6-1 1/2, 175 lbs., 4.4 in the 40 {electronic}, 34 inch vertical jump).

We talked to Lemming right while he was with the Edison gang, and also to Spears himself and to his DB coach Tony Perry. Here is what they said to us.

Johnny Sears: "I was supposed to go to the Stanford Nike Camp a week ago. But I had an appendicitis attack the night before and went into the hospital and had my appendix removed on Saturday, the day of the camp! I'll be fine, but I've still got a bandage on the wound and I'm still pretty sore from it. I don't want to be photographed today because of the wound."

We asked Sears about USC trying to get him to reconsider his Michigan commitment: "Yeah, they were in the next day. But I told them I'm going to Michigan! I'm excited about it!"

Tom Lemming: "(Edison Head Coach) Tim McDonald told me Johnny had committed to Michigan when I called him Saturday to set up the photo-shoot. The Edison coaches showed me his film -- he's got height and speed and his cover skills are impressive. Michigan was certainly the first big-time school to get in on him. He was an unknown kid because he had to sit out last year after transferring in. Right now he's pretty thin looking -- he lost quite a bit of weight from his appendicitis and looks like he's about 150 pounds right now. And he's hobbling around pretty good."
