California TE Has U-M in Top Three

Michigan received its first verbal commitment out of California last week with the pledge of Johnny Sears from Fresno Edison. Who will be next? GoBlueWolverine Magazine spoke Tuesday night with another under the radar player, a tight end from Southern California who has a Michigan offer and has the Wolverines in his top three. Is he destined to join Sears?

"USC, Michigan, and Arizona are the schools that I like right now," Edward Dickson said. "Michigan Coach Ron English was out here during the (spring) evaluation period and he told my coach to have me call Michigan. I called and talked to the head coach, Coach Carr, and he offered me a scholarship. I have a lot of scholarship offers now."

Dickson is a 6 foot 6, 225 pound tight end from Bellflower, Calif. High School. He has 4.6 speed in the 40 along with a 32 inch vertical leap. He is being recruited as a tight end by most schools but some are looking at him as a defensive end. "I play defensive end and tight end," he said. "Colorado and some others are saying I could play defense and even wide receiver," he said. "I wouldn't mind playing either offense or defense in college." The big tight end also plays basketball for the Buccaneers, which may disrupt his camp plans this summer. "We're supposed to go to Las Vegas for hoops this summer," Dickson said. "I'd like to try and get to some camps during that time." He said he did attend the USC Senior Camp.

As a junior Dickson recorded 28 catches for over 400 yards and six touchdowns. On defense he had 68 tackles, 12 sacks and 12 knocked down passes as a junior. Former Bellflower head coach Brian Mustain told TheInsiders that Dickson is the best run blocker he ever coached. Mustain sent three tight ends and two offensive lineman to play college football on scholarship, so this is high praise indeed.

Bellflower is now having spring workout sessions. They are without a head coach at this time so are working with assistants. GoBlueWolverine Magazine will be bringing you more from the Bellflower workouts later this week.
