Pegues Tripping Up North

The player considered to be the top cornerback in the deep south, Derek Pegues from South Panola High School in Batesville, Miss., will be making a visit to a couple of northern schools this month. GoBlueWolverine Magazine spoke Sunday evening with Pegues mother, and she gave us her son's travel plans. Is Michigan going to get a visit?

"He'll be going up to the Notre Dame camp," Candace Fondren, mother of Mississippi defensive star Derek Pegues, said. "I talked to Michigan coach Ron English a while ago and told him Derek was going to the Notre Dame camp, so he said Derek might as well come by Michigan since he'll be up there. His brother his taking up there and he'll be going by both schools. Coach English really wants to get Derek on campus and I know he wants to visit.

"I enjoyed talking with Coach English. He gave me a lot of information about the academics at Michigan and the grad rates. I appreciated that."

Ms. Fondren said her 5 foot 11, 190 pound son had a lot of offers and some of the top schools that stand out are Tennessee, Mississipi, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, and Michigan. "I think his first love is Tennessee," she said. " Coach English said he had an offer fro Derek but we haven't received anything yet in the mail. As a mom I would like him to stay close to home but I'm from South Bend and I know all about Notre Dame. It's a little far but he's a long way from making a decision, he's just having fun right now."

GBW will have more from Pegues during the week.
