Another Top CB Recruit: Camping?

GoBlueWolverine talked Sunday to a new U-M recruit. He's a top guy - TheInsiders' South Hot 100 #10 prospect. And he's at a position of need for U-M -- cornerback. Here is what the prospect and his father told us Sunday about U-M, and about the U-M Camp.

The new recruit: Cornerback Bryan Evans (5-11, 176 lbs., 4.3 in the 40) from Jacksonville, Fla., Ed White. He is TheInsiders' #10 South prospect, and the top CB (and the 2nd DB, after Avery Atkins who is listed as a safety). He has offers from FSU, Florida, LSU, Tennessee and many others.

We spoke Sunday to Bryan and to his father.

Mr. Evans: "We just called and talked Ron English a couple days ago. He definitely has interest in Michigan -- that's the Big Blue! Coach English told us what his plans are for Bryan."

Bryan: "I talked to Coach English, and to Coach Loeffler, and to Coach Carr. Coach Carr offered me a Michigan scholarship."

Regarding the upcoming Michigan camp.

Mr. Evans: "As far as camps -- we'll at least take a look at several schools during their camps ... we'd definitely like for Michigan to be one of them." (Note: Bryan told us that his dad just retired after 27 years in the Navy, so Mr. Evans will accompany Bryan.)

Bryan: "We've talked about it. But I have summer track. I've gone to the Junior Olympics the last two years -- two years ago in the 100 meters (his best time: 10.68 sec.), and last year in the 200 meters (21.5 sec.). And the qualifying trials are the week after coming week (which is the week of the U-M camp). So it depends on how far I go in the trials. If I get eliminated right away then we'll be able to come up to Michigan. But if I qualify for the Junior Olympics again, that'll mean I'll be in the trials pretty much through the week I think. I haven't looked at the time trials schedule that closely though."

Bryan has a cousin at FSU, and the Ed White just got hired as an assistant at Florida. Could Byan actually go North for college?

Mr. Evans: "Bryan's options are definitely open. Even before we'd even gotten into this position, of having several scholarship offers, we sat down and had a discussion about where he would LIKE to go ... Florida State and Florida were on the list, but he did not rule out other places to play."

"For Evan it all boils down to the possibility of playing early ... as well as the various other things of course. But playing time is one of the things Michigan has to offer. We've been looking at college programs online, looking at depth charts. Michigan is one of those programs that is graduating both its corners -- Curry and Jackson."

Bryan: "Marlin Jackson and Markus Curry are both graduating, and they have Leon Hall and Darnell Hood behind them. From what we've seen, Michigan is one of the top five schools in the country for cornerbacks."

Regardless of what happens regarding camp, will Bryan take an official visit to Michigan?

Bryan: "I haven't thought about official visits yet. So I'm not real serious about it yet. But I'd say it is guaranteed that Michigan will be there. Probably also LSU, Florida State, Tennessee .... I'm not sure about a 5th ... I like Maryland too though."
