Schifano Talks About Summer Plans

Webster New York lineman Justin Schifano committed to Michigan at the Notre Dame game last year and made that decision public a few months later in January. Voicing that intention, however, has not caused other schools to cease and desist in their pursuit. GBW talked to Justin yesterday and he talked about the attention he’s still receiving as well as what he has up for the summer.

Justin Schifano (6-5, 296 lbs, 5.07 in the 40) is one of the top lineman in the entire country…a fact that isn’t lost on a great number of suitors still out there. Unfortunately for them, their knocks on his door of interest will go unanswered. “Yeah, there are schools that are still coming after me” Justin said. “But I won’t be taking visits to any other places.” Justin made it clear that his commitment to the Maize and Blue is solid. He also mentioned that he stays in frequent contact with the Michigan staff. “I call them every couple of weeks,” Justin said.

Michigan’s summer football camp starts next weekend and that would seemingly provide an excellent opportunity for the young New Yorker to visit campus and interact with the coaches. While it was clear that he would like to do so, Justin indicated that he wouldn’t be able to attend the annual technique school. “I’m not going to be able to make it,” Justin said. “Today was our last day of school, but I still have finals for the next couple of weeks. I’ll probably be making some visits to campus on my own.”

After finishing up with exams, most of Justin’s summer will be devoted to preparing for his final high school campaign. “My team has a bunch of camps that we’ll do,” Justin said. “We lift all summer long and we do conditioning all summer long. Our coaches also have us doing other things like running certain hills in the area.”

Looking a little further ahead, the young trenchman doesn’t have a preference for which line position he plays once he gets to college, nor does he have the expectation for immediate playing time. “I would think they have me projected at guard at this point, but I’ll play anywhere I can help the team,” Justin said. “I’m sure I’ll be redshirted.”

GBW will stay in contact with Justin throughout the year.
