Top Cornerback Recruit Spotted Saturday

The U-M Summer Camp recruiting has begun with the one-day visit of a top cornerback recruit Saturday -- a day before the camp has even begun!

Also, another top CB recruits tells us he is not coming to camp after all.

Spotted at the Women's Academy scrimmages in the Big House Saturday afternoon:

Cornerback/athlete Derek Pegues (5-11, 190 lbs., 4.4 in the 40, 2.8 GPA/18 ACT) from Batesville, Miss., South Panola.

Derek reminded is physically of current star Wolverine cornerback Marlin Jackson, 5-11 in height and strong and muscular (Jackson by the way was also in attendance Saturday as a womens 'team coach' .... Marlin looked liked he'd matured 5 years over the past 12 months).

Derek was in attendance with his father, who, by the way, is 6-3+ in height. Derek had previously told us he'd be in Ann Arbor for a one-day Saturday visit, after spending the previously week in South Bend (where his uncle's family lives) attending the Notre Dame camp.

Even though he attended the Notre Dame camp instead of Michigan's, he's been telling GBW and others that Michigan and Tennessee are his two early leaders.

Pegues is a quarterback for his high school team, and he's TheInsiders' #79 South prospect, as well as a member of Tom Lemming's Top 100 as a cornerback.

In other news:

Cornerback Avery Atkins from Daytona Beach, Fla., Mainland tells us that he is not able to come up to Ann Arbor for camp week after all. Avery thought his ticket was being bought for him by a family member -- but the ticket fell through.
