Kent. Camper Zirbel to Decide Soon?

Huge offensive tackle Cory Zirbel from Murray, Kent. was a week-long U-M Camper. Will he pick the Wolverines? We spoke to him this afternoon while he was sitting at the Detroit airport waiting for his flight out.

Cory Zirbel is 6-6, 290 lbs. and runs a great 40 yard dash for his size, as you'll see. The main question, though, is did he commit to Michigan?

"No, I didn't commit. But Michigan is #1, and I may well commit fairly soon."

Where are you going from here?

"I'm on my way to Ohio State for a one day camp on Saturday. Then I'm going to Wisconsin and Minnesota for one day visits. I'll be back the end of the first week of July. And I may make my decision then."

Did (fellow camper) David Moosman say anything to you about who he favors?

"David and I became good friends at camp. He told me Michigan is probably ahead right now of the other schools he's been to (Wisconsin and Iowa). And he goes to Notre Dame next week."

Who was the top defensive lineman you went up against at camp?

"James McKinney and Jonas Murrell (6-2, 300 pounder from Marion, Kent.) were both real good. I met Jonas at the Miami camp (where, by the way, Zirbel was named OL MVP) and he and I have gotten to be friends."

What was your 40 time at camp?

"I ran a 5.18 sec. 40."

Note: U-M's electronically timed 40's on field turf are infamously slow, with a 4.5 generally being considered a rock-bottom time ... so a 5.18 is excellent for a big offensive tackle. Cory also reports a a 365 lb. bench press, and academically he has a 3.2 GPA/19 ACT.
