Another Calif. DB with a U-M Connection

California is a mecca for high school football talent. The fact that defensive backs coach Ron English hails from Southern California is one of the reasons he was given the responsibility by U-M of recruiting the area. GoBlueWolverine Magazine spoke with the mother of yet another player who has known English for years. This one made the trip to Ann Arbor for the recent Michigan camp. Did an offer come back with her son?

Running back/defensive back Christian Richards from Monroe high school in Los Angeles was a two-day camper at the recent Michigan camp. The 5 foot 10-1/2, 150-pound athlete is no stranger to Wolverine defensive backs coach Ron English. "My husband and Ron played together at Cal and were roommates," Christian's mother said. "Ron is also Christian's godfather."

The Richards are a football family with dad playing at Cal and for the Los Angeles Rams and brother Rashaad Richards will play for Boise State this fall.

His mom told GBW that Christian came away from the camp with a Michigan offer. She also said he has offers from Cal and Washington and will be visiting USC on Monday. We'll check into this further and will catch up with Christian himself sometime this weekend.

Mrs. Richards said English stopped by Monroe during the spring evaluation period, and they are expecting to see the Michigan coaches again this summer. "Ron and Coach Carr told us they would be coming out to California in July," she said.

The Monroe Vikings posted a 6-5 overall record last season and went 4-1 in the Valley Mission League.
