Richards Makes it Official

While this isn't a surprise to GoBlueWolverine Magazine subscribers, defensive back Chris Richards has decided to play for Michigan. Richards told GBW over the weekend he would pledge for the Wolverines this summer. He decided it had been summer long enough.

"I just got off the phone with Ron English five minutes ago," Christian Richards said. "I told him I wanted to come to Michigan and I committed. There was really no reason to put it off any longer."

The 5 foot 10, 150-pound Richards, from Monroe high school in Los Angeles, will enroll at Michigan in the spring of 2006, making him the first commitement for the class of 2006. His commitment will have no effect on the remaining scholarships for the class of 2005. "I'm going to be working with a couple of trainers during that first fall semester," he said. "I'll also be taking a couple classes at a junior college out here. I'm going to major in pre-law, Michigan has the No.7 law school in the country."

The law school ranking wasn't the only praise Richards had for U-M. "The people there are just great," he said. "The players, the staff, everyone at the school was really great. I just loved it there. When I learned about the history and tradition of Michigan football I just knew I needed to be there. Before, I didn't know that they average a Big Ten Championship every other year. I didn't now about their consecutive bowl (appearance) streak. Man, all those people in that stadium. That's it for me, I'm a Wolverine!"

As GBW reported earlier, Richards is the godson of Michigan defensive backs coach Ron English, who is responsible for recruiting California. Richards chose Michigan over UCLA, Cal, and Washington State.
