Will OL Zirbel Decide This Week?

Kent. OT Cory Zirbel was the one O-lineman offered at the U-M Camp. He told us right after camp that he was on a road trip -- to the Miami, Michigan and OSU Camps, then visits to Wisconsin and Minnesota -- and that when he returned on July 4th he might make a decision. Well he's home ...

We spoke last night (Mon.) to offensive tackle Cory Zirbel (6-5 1/2, 290 lbs., 5.08 in the 40 {electronic}, 365 lb. bench press, 3.2 GPA/19 ACT) from Murray, Kent.

Cory, you'd told us right after the Michigan camp that you might come home from this trip and decide. How do things look at this point?

"I'm not going to commit yet. Though I'd say there's a 99% probability that it's going to be Michigan!"

What is your timetable then?

"I would say mid-way through the football season."

What is your thinking in waiting?

"I just want to make 100% positive that Michigan's the place I want to go. So I'm going to take a couple of official visits during the fall. My parents think this is a good idea too. My dad (an Engineering Technology Professor at Murray State) wants to get back up to Michigan with me one more time before I commit." [Note: the parents did not accompany Cory on his summer road trip.]

You've seen all your favorites now: a week at the Miami Camp, a week at Michigan's Camp, a day at the OSU Camp, and visits to Wisconsin and Minnesota. What was your best experience?

"I would definitely would say Michigan. I figured it would be, and it was. Coach Moeller (U-M's O-Line coach) is a great coach and a great guy. Next was Miami. And I thought Ohio State would be up there too, but I didn't feel as comfortable there."

So how many official visits might you take in the fall?

"Michigan of course, and Miami ... maybe just those two."

Are you going to look at any other schools this summer?

"No, I'm through with summer visits now. My own team's camp starts in a week."

Zirbel was a week-long camper at the recent U-M Camp, and was the only offensive lineman offered a scholarship during the week. He has close to 30 scholarship offers now.
