Pa. CB Justin King - The Latest Developments

We spoke this evening to Mr. Terry Smith, the father/coach of top Penn. cornerback Justin King. King's 'recruiting picture' has shifted into a 'new focus'!

As U-M recruiting fans know, Michigan's top CB recruit made a one-day U-M camp visit: Justin King from Monroeville, Pa., Gateway. King spent the day with U-M's 'Western PA gang' of Marlin Jackson, Ryan Mundy and Steve Breaston, as well as incoming frosh safety Jamar Adams.

After camp Justin told us he'd also be making unofficial visits this summer to OSU, Florida, and USC. And he's also been to PSU of course, and was considering Miami as well. And Justin also had told us there was a possibility that he'd make a summer decision.

This evening we called and talked to Justin's stepdad and head coach, Terry Smith. We happened to be calling from one of American's leading amusement parks, and Mr. King said:

"No kidding! We're going to be there ourselves in two days! We're done with unofficial visits for the summer, and we're going on vacation."

We asked Mr. Smith how the summer went for Justin.

"We took an unofficial visit to Ohio State, and to Florida. We didn't go to Miami -- Justin probably is not considering then as highly as the others. And we were not able to make it out to USC this summer either -- but Justin plans to make an official visit there in the fall."

Justin is taking official visits in the fall so he can make his choice and enroll in college in January?

"That's right. He'll make official visits to his favorites in the fall, and then graduate and enroll at the semester. Justin is a mature guy you know, and he's just ready to graduate from high school and move up to the next level."

So those are the schools: U-M, PSU, Florida, USC and Ohio State. U-M and PSU have been considered the leaders, and Florida has jumped up as well. But USC will definitely get its shot when a visit is taken there, and OSU is also in the mix.

King's stats: 5-11, 182 lbs., 2003 PSU Nike stats: 4.29 in the 40, 3.72 sec. shuttle {best of camp}, 37.1 inch vertical jump {best of camp}, 11 bench press reps. ... 3.0 GPA. He is TheInsiders' #7 overall prospect.

By the way, Mr. Smith also mentioned to us that Gateway High will have more Div. One prospects coming up next year -- including his nephew, 6-0, 180 lb. QB/Ath. Aaron Smith, who worked out at QB at this summer's Michigan Camp.
