Both Ryan Wright and Jevohn Shepherd had dominating performances at the Nike All-Canada Camp last week. Wright continued his explosive summer performance with a 38 point effort Friday. According to HooptownGTA.com, Ryan was the most dominant player in attendance. Ryan's improvement over the summer has been evident and last week he credited the stiff competition he has faced in the states for the increase in his level of play.
Shepherd rebounded from an injured ankle that kept him out of the last day of competition in Indianapolis to claim the slam dunk title and score a camp High 42 points. In the All-Stat game Jevohn tied for a team high 16 points, while Wright led all scorers with 22. (Devin Brennan-McBride scored 8 points respectively). HooptownGTA praised the explosive wing's efforts following his performance.
At 6'5" & 208 pounds, Jevohn is player that can give you what ever you need; he ran the point at times, is a great wing player, can get his shot off anytime he wants, and can post up & know how to use his body.... and he does it all with ease." - HooptownGTA.com
As we reported earlier, Shepherd will be back on Michigan's campus in August and it would come as no surprise to see significant movement in his recruitment at that time.
Moving on to our last shoe camp interviews...we caught up with Matt Shaw at the ABCD Camp and Devin Brennan-McBride at the Nike All-American camp last week. Brennan-McBride, who visited Michigan Michigan back in April, looks to now have a clear favorite in his recruitment (and it's not the Wolverines). Shaw, who had Michigan assistant Charles Ramsey visit his school, also appears to be favoring others at this point.
What were you looking to get out of the camp?
"I just came with the mindset of getting better. I'm just taking everything in."
Have you been able to narrow your list down to a top 5 yet?
What have been your impressions of Michigan?
"I really like the staff and the academics at the school. Plus, they've been recruiting me pretty hard so I'm giving them a look."
You mentioned that you wanted to improve your defense previously. Have you been doing that?
"Yeah, I've been working on it. I also need to get stronger and lose a little weight."
What are your top 5 schools at this point?
Has your summer been really busy? Have a lot more schools been in contact?
Not a lot more schools, but I've been playing a lot more basketball and it has been a lot of fun. I'm playing for the provincial team in Canada and I've got a whole bunch of stuff lined up for this month. I've got the Nike Canadian camp, then I'm going to Las Vegas, then Waterloo camp, then I have provincials."
Have you made it to any other schools for visits lately?
"I've been to Michigan State quite a few times."
Did you make to Michigan just that one time?
"Yeah, just the one time. It was a really nice campus."
Can you compare your visits to Michigan and Michigan State? Was one better than the other?
"Michigan was nice, but I kind of liked Michigan State a little bit better."
Would you say that they're your favorite at this point?
"I think so. Yeah."
Have any schools talked about offering you a scholarship?
"Yeah, Michigan State has. They've offered me one already."
What have been your impressions of the coaching staffs?
"At Michigan I talked to one of the assistants. Coach Swenson I believe. He was a nice guy. At Michigan State I've talked to Coach Izzo a lot and he's a really good guy. He's really funny. He's not one of those guys that is serious all of the time. He has a lighter side to him."
What does your timetable look like?
"I won't be deciding anything for another year or so. It's early for me right now."
What are going to be the factors that go into the decision?
"Mainly my heart and my parents."
