Chris, how's your health? I understand that you were having migraines, thus the reason you didn't practice on Wednesday.
"Yeah, I sat at home yesterday(Wednesday) because of a migraine. There was no sense in me being here if I was going to feel miserable all day. I took some prescriptions, got some rest, and put some food in me. So I'm feeling a lot better than I did yesterday."
I talked to you a couple days ago and you told me that you were up at Michigan working out with the guys. Have the Michigan coaches told you what position they want you to play?
"They said their going to start me out at DE. But with them switching to that new defense, they said their going to switch me around and kind of see where I fit in best after seeing me play a little bit."
So are you trying to go in and play this year?
"Actually, I'd like to be redshirted. That would kind of be ideal for me. I get used to the system and the workout training."
Going back to when you you were up at Michigan, was there a player that impressed you, or that you think is going to have a big impact this year?
"I'm thinking Pat Massey!"
That's an interesting pick. I'm sure Michigan fans would be happy if that came to fruition. Why Pat Massey?
"He's a big guy, and has been looking really great during the off season workouts."
Do you know what number you'll be wearing at Michigan?
"They gave me 93, I had asked for 95."
Was 95 your High School number?
"No, 87 was my High School number."
That's right, you played some TE in HS.
"Yeah I did. At one point, I was the #3 TE in the country!"
So how did you senior year go?
"It didn't go to good. I only had one hand all year because I broke it in the second game I still caught a few passes. I wasn't 100%, but I still made 1st Team All Conference. My junior year went a lot better!"
With all that said, why did you pick the University of Michigan?
"All the coaches were great to me, and so nice . I got there the first day (The Michigan Camp) and the coaches came up to me. They said, 'Are you Chris Rogers? We just saw your tape, we really like you and want you to come up and talk to Lloyd Carr before you leave.' So I went up to Lloyd's office once I was done, and five minutes later he offered me a scholarship! That was my first offer, but it really didn't hit me until a week later. After that, all the offers started coming in."
How many offers did you end up having?
I ended up with seventeen scholarship offers."
You're from Western PA. Did knowing that there were others players from your area already at Michigan help you make your decision?
"That was definitely part of it. When I went up there(to Michigan), I met those players and they came up to me just because I was from Western PA. Steve (Breaston) came over and said hello, and introduced himself. Scotty (McClintok) came over and introduced himself the last time I was up there. Those guys make me comfortable there! When you walk in, it's nice to have guys come up to you instead of them thinking they're a little bit superior."
So you feel comfortable with the players there?
"Yeah, the real good! I stayed with some of the guys, and kind of got my feet wet. I made quite a few friends."
With Michigan seemingly recruiting in Western PA every year, do you feel comfortable going back and helping in their recruiting efforts there?
"Oh, of course! I'll be helping out in anyway I can. I'm going to help
guys out and tell them the truth about how great it is a Michigan!"
