Late Aug. Best Guess List: Offensive Linemen

With two Offensive Linemen commitments in the class, U-M may still take one more ... or two ... the biggest nead is for the biggest OT's!

Offensive Linemen
Needs: 3 (or 4)
Commitments: 2 (Justin Schifano, Tim McAvoy)
Recruits: Cory Zirbel, David Moosman, Marques Slocum (see DT) (and Dan Doering as well)

- (Commitment #2) Justin Schifano ('03 U-M Camper, Nike stats: 6-4 1/2, 302 lbs., 5.1 in the 40, 30 bench press reps. of 185 lbs. ... 400 lb. bench press, "A" avg./qualified) from Webster, N.Y., Schroeder. He committed during his unofficial visit for the '03 Notre Dame game. He was the top OL performer at the '03 PSU Nike Camp as a soph. He is TheInsiders' #39 East prospect.

- (Commitment #9) OC/OG prospect Tim McAvoy ('04 U-M Camper, 6-5, 250 lbs., 4.8 in the 40, 3.3 GPA/24 ACT) from Bloomington, Ill. A TE in high school, McAvoy worked out at O-line at the U-M Camp. He was offered in early August, and committed Aug, 3. Tim's dad played for Gary Moeller at Illinois.

- Offensive tackle Cory Zirbel ('04 U-M Camper, 6-6, 290 lbs., 5.18 {electronic} in the 40) from Murray, Kent. He was offered at the U-M Camp. U-M, Miami and Oklahoma are his final three. He will likely take his official visits during the fall. He is TheInsiders' #51 South prospect.

- Offensive lineman David Moosman ('04 U-M Camper, 6-3, 260 lbs., 5.3 in the 40, 360 lb. bench press, 2.9 GPA) from Libertyville, Ill. Moosman already had a U-M offer coming into the U-M Camp, and told us afterwards that U-M was his favorite of the three schools he'd camped at so far (Iowa and Wisconsin), but he was camped at Notre Dame (the main competition?). UCLA (he has family in LA) rounds out his top 5. And, he told us, he does not feel in a hurry to make a decision. He is TheInsiders #17 Midwest prospect.

- Offensive tackle Dan Doering (US Army Combine stats: 6-5 1/2, 270 lbs., 5.29 in the 40, 16 bench press reps.) from Barrington, Ill. He has a Michigan offer, and attended the Feb. 29 U-M Junior Day and a U-M spring practice. As of late July hs has official visits planned for Notre Dame, Iowa and Nebraska ... but U-M is expected to get one of the remaining two visits. He is TheInsiders #27 prospect.

- One other guy to mention. He does not want to hear the words "offensive lineman" so we'll list him as a DL ... but he's definitely a top U-M recruit. He's in the middle of an unofficial visit trip with his coach, and made a stop at U-M on Monday, July 26: Defensive/offensive tackle Marques Slocum (PSU Nike stats: 6-6, 330 lbs., 5.09 in the 40 ... 300 lb. bench press) from Philadelphia West Catholic. Slocum grew up a U-M fan and U-M has offered him ... and may just lead for him. He is TheInsiders #70 prospect.
