Top Recruit King's Phone Rings and Rings

We spoke to Justin King on both sides of a busy day of taking phone calls yesterday -- Sept. 1st, the day college recruiters could being making their weekly calls to the kids.

Has King set a Michigan official visit?

We spoke last night to cornerback Justin King ('04 U-M Camp Visitor, 5-11, 182 lbs., 2003 PSU Nike stats: 4.29 in the 40, 3.72 sec. shuttle {best of camp}, 37.1 inch vertical jump {best of camp}, 11 bench press reps., 3.0 GPA) from Monroeville, Pa., Gateway.

We'd first reached King and his stepdad/coach around noon, and found out that except for USC his recruiters were going to call him last night. So we called back late last night, after the heavy day of calls was over.

Did you get your call from Michigan?

"Yes. My mom and I talked to Coach English for quite a while tonight."

Who else did you talk to?

"I talked today to coaches from Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, USC, Florida, Miami, West Virginia and Pitt."

Did you set any official visits?

"I have not set any official visits yet. I've been talking to Michigan about possibly visiting for the Michigan State game, but it hasn't been set for sure yet."

And are you still graduating early?

"Yes. I still plan to graduate in December and enroll in college in January."

Gateway's first game is this coming Friday night. King will play both running back and cornerback.

Note: this is still considered primarily a U-M/PSU or PSU/U-M race. And if it has seemed recently that, according to reports, PSU has passed Michigan for him ... that is not the case.
