Michigan, Henne, Open '04 In Impressive Fashion

Michigan's scoring drives said it all yesterday -- the Michigan defense created short fields over and over again. Six of U-M's seven scoring drives were of 27 yards or less, set up by four U-M interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Scoring drive #1: 27 yard drive, set up by a U-M interception.
Quarter two, 10:20 on the clock. Ryan Mundy makes an interception at the U-M 38, returns it to the Miami 27.
Six plays later Garrett Rivas kicks a 31 yard field goal.
U-M 3, Miami 0.

Scoring drive #2: 9 yard drive, set up by a U-M interception.
Quarter two, 6:45 on the clock. After the field goal U-M kicks off, and on Miami's very first play from scrimmage Marcus Curry intercepts at the Miami 30 and returns it back to the 9 yard line.
Four plays later David Underwood scores.
U-M 10, Miami 0.

Scoring Drive #3: 17 yard drive, set up by U-M sack, fumble recovery.
Quarter three. Miami takes the opening kickoff. Four plays later Pierre Woods sacks the Miami QB at the Miami 17, the QB fumbles, and Woods recovers.
Four plays later Underwood scores.
U-M 17, Miami 0.

Scoring Drive #4: U-M's first 'real' drive. 61 yards after a Miami punt.
Quarter three: U-M starts at their own 39 yard line at the 10:25 mark.
Eight plays later Chad Henne completes his first TD pass of his career, a 20 yarder to Braylon Edwards.
U-M 24, Miami 0.

Scoring Drive #5: 88 yard interception for a touchdown.
Quarter four. After Miami scored a field goal and a TD to make it 24-10, Miami drove to the U-M 16.
Then, at the 9:01 mark, Ernest Shazor made an interception at the U-M 12 and returned it all the way back for an 88 yard touchdown.
Michigan 30, Miami 10

Scoring Drive #6: 7 yard drive set up by U-M interception.
Quarter four: Three plays after the Shazor interception, Markus Curry makes a second interception, this time at the Miami 32 and returned to the Miami 7.
Three plays later Henne threw his 2nd TD pass of the day to Braylon Edwards.
U-M 36, Miami 10.

Scoring Drive #7: 18 yard drive set up by Miami fumble on ensuing kickoff.
Quarter four: Miami fumbles on the ensuing kickoff and Prescott Burgess recovers for U-M.
Four plays later (with Clayton Richard at QB) Jerome Jackson scores.
