Henne to Start Against Irish .... For Now

The big question this week is who will be the Saturday's starting quarterback for Michigan's upcoming showdown with Notre Dame. During Tuesday's Big Ten Coaches teleconference meeting Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr said Chad Henne, who was the last minute starter for the Miami game after Matt Gutierrez suffered a shoulder injury, appears to be the choice.

"Based on what I know right now, Chad Henne will start," Carr said. He also said redhsirt sophomore quarterback Matt Gutierrez "threw lightly" during Monday's practice.

Henne led Michigan to a 43-10 victory in the Wolverines opening contest with Miami. While Henne looked sharp, considering he is the first true freshman quarterback to start since Rick Leach in 1975, he needed significant help from a defense that caused seven turnovers, including five interceptions. Michigan scored 20 points off of those Miami turnovers.

Henne was 14 of 24 for 142 yards with two touchdown's and an interception.
