Pegues Has One Northern School in Final Five

As one of the top cornerback's in the South, it will be a daunting challenge for Michigan to land four-star Derek Pegues from South Panola High School in Batesville, Miss. The Wolverines have made the final cut, and are the only team from up north on the list. When will he visit?

There was a time when Michigan and Tennessee were the top contenders for South Panola star Derek Pegues. A summer trip up north to the Notre Dame and Michigan camps tempered things a bit and he told GoBlueWolverine after the visits that he didn't have a leader. Tuesday evening he again claimed no leader, but did give a list of schools he would visit. "I'll go to LSU, Tennessee, Michigan, Auburn, and Ole Miss," he said. "I'll take all my visits after the season and decide sometime in January." He said all of his favorites have offered.

The 5 foot 11, 190-pound Pegues said he spoke recently with Michigan defensive backs coach Ron English about a visit to Ann Arbor. "He wants me to come up some time in December," Pegues said.

Playing time is an important factor for the Mississippi standout. He is looking to see early playing time and is excited about the chances at Michigan. "I know they are losing a lot of cornerbacks so the opportunity for me to play as a freshman is there," he said.

Pegues is focusing on his season at the moment, South Panola is off to a 4-0 start, and has already received one honor. "I was invited to play in the U.S. Army All-American game in January," he said.
