Michigan Enters the Season as CCHA Favorite

After being ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the first polls released for the 2004-2005 hockey season it's no surprise the Wolverines were selected as the CCHA favorite for the third consecutive season at the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's media day Tuesday afternoon in Detroit.

The Wolverines collected 10 first place votes and 120 total votes from the coaches to edge out Michigan State, which finished with two first place votes and 112 total votes. In the media poll Michigan collected 48 first place votes, finishing 73 votes ahead of second place Michigan State. Miami of Ohio and Ohio State collected one first place vote each to finish third and fourth respectively.

Along with the team honors, Wolverine goalie Al Montoya, forwards T.J. Hensick and Jeff Tambellini, and defensemen Brandon Rogers were selected to the All-CCHA Preseason Team. Both Montoya and Hensick were named first team choices, while Tambellini and Rogers were selected for the second team. Senior Eric Werner was also given honorable mention honors.

The Wolverine season gets underway this Saturday night at Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor as the Wolverines take on The University of Windsor in an exhibition contest at 7:35 p.m.
