Bass Talks About Leader, Visits, & More (Part 2)

In part 2 of my conversation with Antonio Bass, he talks about a leader in his recruitment and discusses his visits (both taken and planned). Interesting news for the Wolverines included.

What visits have you been on?

Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Florida are the schools I’ve visited unofficially. Virginia Tech has been my only unofficial visit.”

Is there anything that sticks out from those trips?

"They were all pretty much the same. Nothing really sticks out right now."

You seemed impressed with Blacksburg after you returned from your Virginia Tech visit.

"Yeah, Blacksburg is a pretty nice place. It’s a small little town. But the people there are CRAZY about football. They love it! All you have to do is say you are part of a football team, and they are in love with you. I like that kind of atmosphere. The players there are real cool. When I got to hang with them, I was real comfortable."

Who was your host while you were there?

"Mike Daniels was my host, but I was mainly with Eric Green. Mike Daniels plays Safety, and Eric Green plays Corner. So I was with them most of the time. The only thing was that was the time when they didn't have a game on Saturday, so everyone went home."

So, you weren't there for a game?

"No. It was mainly the parties, and that type of activity. I got a taste of that kind of life, and it was nice, I liked it."

Did either of your parents make it down there with you?

"No, it was just me."

How close is Blacksburg to your family in VA?

"It's real close to my family. But my grandmother is moving out here with us."

Moving to Jackson?

"Yes. She is getting to that age where she needs the help. But other than that, I have family in New York, and New Jersey."

At one time, you said, if you had to make an immediate choice, you would go to Tech. Is that still the case?

"I don't know. You know I won’t hold you up. I’ll give it to you straight. I don’t know. Michigan is still my leader…but it goes both ways. It’s like this. If I go to Virginia Tech, I’ll probably have a better chance at playing quarterback there. I may even play early if I go there and do well. If I go to Michigan, I may not be able to play quarterback because it’s a different style of quarterback there. But, I will get the best academics. They’ve got the best of everything up there. Plus it's an all around great football team. People talk about how basically every receiver at Michigan went to the NFL, and that doesn't hurt either!"

So, if I ask you a tough question like who's your leader at this point, what would you say?

"I would say Michigan Tech! (Laughing). I think it’s even with those two. I’m not going to lie to you. That is where my heart really lies… with Michigan and Virginia Tech. LSU has really been giving me a look. They’re looking nice. Florida and Notre Dame are nice too. Other schools are still there, but my main ones right now are Michigan and Virginia Tech."

Do you have a timetable of when you want to decide?

"I did have one, but not anymore. It's hard."

When it comes down to it, what's going to tip the scale? Will it be your visits? The coaches come to visit you?

"I don't know. I felt comfortable at Virginia Tech. I may make an official visit to Michigan this weekend (homecoming game against Minnesota). I’m going to the game this week. I know that for sure. But I might make it an official visit too."

Are there any other schools that you think you might visit?

"LSU. Right now that’s about it. I don’t know for sure. Ohio State wants me to visit them, and so do Purdue and a few other schools, but I don't know about that yet."

GBW will have more on Antonio in the coming days and don't forget to check out more from Coach Fairly in an upcoming issue of GoBlueWolverine the Magazine.
