DEFENSIVE LINEMEN

- Michigan commitment #10: DT Terrance Taylor (Sept. 25 Iowa game offic. visit, '03 U-M Camper, 6-0, 285 lbs., 4.9 in the 40, 2.8 GPA/18 ACT) from Muskegon, Mich. He made an official visit to LSU the Sept 3 weekend and said LSU had moved into the lead for him, but then he made his official visit to U-M Sept. 25 for the Iowa game and committed to the Wolverines. He attended the late-July U-M Junior Academic Day. He is TheInsiders #20 Midwest prospect.

- The once-and-hopefully-future commitment: DL James McKinney ('04 U-M Camper, US Army Combine stats: 6-1 1/2, 274 lbs., 5.10 in the 40, 14 bench press reps., 24 1/2 inch vertical jump, 2.7 GPA/17 ACT) from Louisville, Kent., Central. He plans unofficial visits to U-M for the MSU game. He is NOT going to graduate in Dec. He will make official visits to Michigan (Dec.), Clemson (Nov. 19), Nebraska (Nov. 26), Oklahoma (possible Dec. 10) and Notre Dame ... U-M, ND and Louisville lead. In late Aug. he told the Louisville Courier-Journal that U-M still leads. McKinney was a full week U-M camper, and worked out at both tight end and defensive lineman. He is TheInsiders #75 prospect, and has been chosen to play in the U.S. Army All-American Game.

Defensive/offensive tackle Marques Slocum (Dec. 10 official visit, PSU Nike stats: 6-6, 330 lbs., 5.09 in the 40 ... 300 lb. bench press) from Philadelphia West Catholic. As of Oct. 1st. he has official visits scheduled to MSU (Nov. 12), U-M ... the two leaders ... plus Miami and possibly Virginia or LSU. He made a summer unofficial visit to U-M on Monday, July 26. Slocum grew up a U-M fan and U-M has offered him. He is TheInsiders #70 prospect.

- Defensive tackle/end Kyle Moore (planned Dec. official visit, 6-6, 255 lbs., 4.9 in the 40, 3.0 GPA/960 SAT) from Warner Robbins, Ga., Houston County. Moore has family in Detroit, and would like to make one of his official visits to U-M (Dec.), along with USC (Oct. 15, leader?), Oklahoma (Oct. 23) and Florida (Jan.), and possibly Miami, Purdue or Tennessee ... Georgia is also in the running. He is TheInsiders' #41 South prospect.

- Defensive tackle/end Hivera Green (6-5, 260 lbs., 4.75 in the 40) from Conway, S.C. In late July he tried to commit to U-M ... but things will at least hold off until the fall when he can visit. In mid-Oct. he says he will make official visits to Michigan, Tennessee, Virginia Tech (leader?), Clemson and Kansas State. The question regarding Green may be, is he a DE? He is TheInsiders #58 East prospect.

- Commitment #6: defensive end/outside linebacker Chris McLaurin ('04 U-M Camper, 6-4, 230 lbs., 4.80 {electronic} in the 40) from Orchard Lake, Mich., St. Mary's. He won a U-M camp offer and committed soon after. He'd also attended U-M for the MSU basketball game this past winter. As a junior the sleek and fast defensive end made 50 tackles and 9 1/2 sacks.

- Commitment #11: Tight end/defensive end Carson Butler (6-5, 235 lbs., 4.6 in the 40, 2.9 GPA) from Detroit Renaissance. He made a U-M unofficial visit for the Minn. game, and for the Miami game. U-M is his fav but as of Oct. 10 has not yet offered. Butler had to sit out his junior year after transferring from Lansing Waverly. He did play hoops on the Renaisssance team last winter. U-M offered him after seeing film of his first couple games ... and he committed at the Minn. game.

- Tight end/defensive end Edward Dickson (6-6, 250 lbs.) from Bellflower, Calif. Dickson has a U-M offer, and has family in Michigan. It may come down to USC or U-M for him, but Oklahoma will get an official visit as well, and Oregon (Oct. 9 official visit) and ASU (possible Oct. official visit). He is TheInsiders' #100 West prospect.

- possible recruit: Tight end/defensive end Will Powers (Stan Nike stats: 6-4, 221 lbs, 4.56 sec. 40, a 4.63 sec. shuttle, a 32.1 inch vertical jump, and 20 bench press reps. ... 3.7 GPA/1380 SAT) from San Mateo, Calif., Serra (Tom Brady's alma mater). Powers has a top 4 of Cal-Berkeley, Stanford, Oregon, and Nebraska .. he has also been offered by has been offered by Notre Dame ... U-M wants to see film of his first couple games. He is TheInsiders' No. 11 West player.br>
