Will Jerome Hayes Visit Michigan?

When GoBlueWolverine Magazine last spoke with linebacker Jerome Hayes from Bayonne, N.J. High School, he was seriously considering a visit to Ann Arbor after stating how impressed he was with the way the Wolverines were playing. Wednesday night GBW caught up with Hayes to get an update. Will he be making it up to Michigan?
Linebacker Jerome Hayes already visited Florida on Oct. 8. He will trip to Rutgers this weekend, then head to Michigan State on Dec. 10 and Miami (Fla) on Dec. 17. Who will get the remaing visit from the No. 13 linebacker in the country according to Scout.com? "I'm not sure yet," he said. "There are five or six teams looking to get the last visit and Michigan is one of those. I will probably decide sometime in the next week or two where I'll go." Some of other teams vying for the fifth and final trip are Penn State, Maryland and Louisville.

Michigan coach Bill Sheridan was at Bayonne recently. Hayes said Sheridan will be returning to meet his parents and pitch Michigan once more, some time next week.

The 6 foot 2, 225-pound Hayes has the size and speed to play running back or linebacker in college, but looks to be slotted for the defensive side of the ball. He finished the season with over 1200 yards rushing and 103 tackles. He has 4.6 speed in the 40 and said he doesn't really care whether he plays on the inside or outside. What schools offer the best opportunity for early playing time? "Right now Rutgers looks like they have the best situation for me right now," he said. "But all of the other schools need linebackers too."

Bayonne lost 22-6 to Elizabeth in the first round of the playoffs to finish the season at 6-4. Hayes said he had 16 carries for 103 yards and the lone touchdown for the Bees in their last game. It is now on to basketball for Hayes, who plays power forward for Bayonne. Hayes reports a 2.8 grade-point-average and said he would like to major in sports entertainment and possibly teach.
