James McKinney Excited about Weekend Visit

At one time a Michigan commitment, defensive lineman James McKinney from Louisville, Ky. Central High School will be taking is official visit to Ann Arbor this weekend. GoBlueWolverine Magazine spoke Thursday with McKinney about the trip, and the chances he'll be a Wolverine once again.

When four-star standout James McKinney from Louisville, Ky. Central High School committed to Michigan in November of 2003, one of his comments after his announcement was, "Who could pass up a chance to play for them?" 13 months later McKinney is taking his official visit to Michigan. However, he has since re-opened his recruitment and while Michigan is still in the mix, others are right there. "I'm looking forward to it," He said. "I probably won't recommit because I want to take all of my visits and see what's out there. I was at Clemson last weekend and had a really good time, I liked it there."

The 6 foot 4, 280-pound McKinney has also visited Nebraska on Nov. 26, and will trip to Oklahoma on Dec. 17 and Ohio State in January, after the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 15. "If things work out there is a possibility I could announce at the Army game," he said. "But since I'm taking my visit to Ohio State after that I may wait until Signing Day."

McKinney said he will be making the trip alone. He has said previously that he has family in Michigan and is uncle, Neal, attended high school in Ann Arbor.

McKinney's cousin, linebacker Brandon Logan from Lexington, Ky. Catholic High School, took his official visit to Michigan last weekend. At one time the two had talked about taking their visits together, but those plans fell through. However, McKinney did get to speak with his cousin about the experience. "He said he loved it," McKinney said. "We talked a little bit about what's going on, I can't comment on what he said, but he had a good time."

McKinney said he is looking forward to spending some time with the other big players coming in this weekend.
