Will James McKinney (front) and Marques Slocum (back) end up Blue?
Regarding lineman Marques Slocum
One player told GoBlueWolverine Magazine this morning that Marques told him, "It's down to Michigan, and Michigan State for me ... but I don't want to lose." (Guess which team had the losing record this year ...)

By the way, today Slocum moved into the starting offensive guard position, beating out (at least for the day) Dace Richardson (... we TOLD you Slocum was a fast learner!). Still, he prefers the defensive line, and was taking snaps at defensve tackle by the end of the day.

This same player who told GBW about Slocum also said James McKinney is talking about Michigan all the time.

On the field, McKinney held onto a starting defensive end spot for the second day.

Zoltan Mesko and his "blue shoe" will be booting punts for the Maize and Blue next fall. One observer at practice Tuesday said Mesko was punting balls from the 50-yard line through the uprights.

Regarding punter Zoltan Mesko. Zoltan told GBW, "Michigan has talked to me about punting and kicking off. I did all the kicking for my high school team, but I don't intend to place kick at Michigan."

Mesko had another day of effortlessly kicking 50 yarders. About Mesko, Tom Lemming told GBW today, "He's the best punter Michigan has had in their kicking camp in five years. Michigan offered him on the spot." That other punter five years ago: Adam Finley.

Lastly, regarding the East's place kicker, 5-foot-10, 175-pound Matthew Waldron from Oakfield-Alabama Central High School in Oakfield, N.Y. (near Buffalo), he was also a kicker at the Michigan Camp this past summer -- and he was the best place kicker there. Zoltan Mesko, who became friends with Waldron at the U-M Camp, told us, "Matthew's the most accurate kicker I've ever seen. " But, unfortunately for Waldron, Michigan wasn't interested in offering a placekicker this year. Waldron's father told GBW, "Michigan told us they want Matthew to walk on for two years, and that they'd give him a scholarship after that, once Garrett Rivas left. But we're still looking for a scholarship offer somewhere."
