From Michigan's 20th commitment, Defensive (NOT offensive) tackle Marques Slocum (Dec. 10 U-M official visit, '04 PSU Nike stats: 6-6, 330 lbs. {now down to 310}, 5.09 in the 40 ... 300 lb. bench press) from Philadelphia West Catholic:

Why he picked Michigan.

"Michigan is the best place for me. The last couple days I really thought about it, and it became clear to me."

"On the football side, Michigan has the best program. 108,000 people at every game, the best rivalry game in the country, it's got it all ... "

"And academically, it's the best academic program for me too ... there are ten ways for me to get an art degree there."

"The Michigan coaches were a big factor ... I talked to all of the coaches over the last couple days. I feel like Coach Carr and Coach Sheridan will look out for me at Michigan. Here my mom and Coach Fluck have looked out for me, and the Michigan coaches will do the same thing."

"I haven't called James (McKinney) today. But he's got the internet at his house, and I know he was going to read all about it today."

What's up for James?

"I talked to Coach Mattison today, and we worked out a Florida official visit for this weekend."

"I still tentatively plan to announce my decision at me banquet on January 30 ... we'll see."

Note: Nebraska (Nov. visit) is also still in it for McKinney.
