- Commitment #11: Tight end/defensive end Carson Butler (Dec. 10 official visit, 6-5, 235 lbs., 4.6 in the 40, 2.9 GPA) from Detroit Renaissance. He committed to U-M during his official visit. He made an unofficial visit to U-M for the Iowa game. He was offered at the U-M Camp. He is still talking to Kentucky, but GBW is not too worried. He is Scout.com's' #48 South prospect and #15 offensive lineman.

- Commitment #17: Offensive lineman David Moosman (Dec. 10 official visit, '04 U-M Camper, 6-3, 260 lbs., 5.3 in the 40, 360 lb. bench press, 2.9 GPA/26 ACT) from Libertyville, Ill. He also visited MSU unofficially in the summer. Slocum grew up a U-M fan. Final senior (11-2) stats: 78 tackles/30 TFL/8 sacks. He is Scout.com's #87 prospect and #12 defensive lineman.

- The once-and-hopefully-future commitment: DT/DE/TE James McKinney (Dec. 10 U-M official visit, '04 U-M Camper, US Army Combine stats: 6-1 1/2, 274 lbs., 5.10 in the 40, 14 bench press reps., 24 1/2 inch vertical jump, 2.7 GPA/17 ACT) from Louisville, Kent., Central.
What's Next: currently taking his last visit to Fla. His visits: Neb (Nov. 26), Clem (Dec. 3), U-M (Dec. 10), Louisville (Dec. 17), Florida (Jan. 14).
Misc. He was sent home midway through his Louisville visit (which was his leader at the time?) for supposedly saying Michigan is a football state whereas Kentucky is a basketball state. Afterward he told us that his mom, who had wanted him to stay close to home, told him, "Go ahead and go to Michigan if you want!" McKinney made an unofficial visit to U-M for the MSU game. McKinney was a full week U-M camper, and worked out at both tight end and defensive lineman. Senior (10-2) stats: 70 tackles/10 sacks/3 blocked FG/4 batted passes/7 FC. He is Scout.com's #83 prospect and #9 tight end, and played well in the U.S. Army All-American Game -- at DE, DT and TE.
Michigan's outlook for him, in GBW's eyes: 'guardedly optimistic', although his visit to Florida is a threat.

- Commitment #16: Linebacker Brandon Logan (Dec. 3 U-M official visit, ‘02 & ‘03 U-M Camper, US Army Combine stats: 6-0, 189 lbs., 4.72 in the 40, 11 bench press reps., 26 inch vertical jump, 2.5 GPA/17 ACT) from Lexington, Kent., Catholic. He picked Michigan on Dec. 14. Logan made his official U-M visit with his dad. He'd also attended the MSU football game for an unofficial visit with his parents. Final SR (9-2) stats: 100 tackles/5 sacks He is Scout.com's #75 Southeast prospect, and #32 linebacker

- Commitment #6: defensive end/outside linebacker Chris McLaurin ('04 U-M Camper, 6-4, 230 lbs., 4.80 {electronic} in the 40) from Orchard Lake, Mich., St. Mary's. He is Scout.com's #49 Midwest prospect.

ADDED- Will DE/OLB Eugene Germany (6-4, 270 lbs., 4.6 in the 40, 2.5 GPA/900 SAT, from Pomiona, Calif.) be part of the Michigan recruiting class? Germany signed a year ago with USC over U-M (his pref.) due to his mom's wishes, but USC never enrolled him. So now he has looked again at U-M. However, winter classes have already started at U-M, so if he wants to attend Michigan he will likely have to wait until after Signing Day and enroll in the spring half-term -- which would make him, we believe, part of the 2005/06 class. Will he wait? KSU and San Diego State could enroll him right now since their winter terms start this week (and don't forget Oregon State and WSU who were finalists of his last year as well) ... so we'll see.

- Michigan Commitment #5: Cornerback Johnny Sears (Dec. 10 official visit, USC camp stats: 6-1 1/2, 175 lbs., 4.4 in the 40 {electronic}, 34 inch vertical jump) from Fresno, Calif., Edison. Johnny is an unknown because he had to sit out his junior season after transferring. Still, the Edison DB coach, who has sent many kids to Div. 1 college programs (including Ricky Manning), highly recommends him. And he had a great senior season, notching 102 tackles and 7 interceptions. He is Scout.com's #26 cornerback.

- - Commitment #15: Cornerback Brandon Harrison (Dec. 10 official visit, OSU Nike stats: 5-8 1/2, 190 lbs., 4.25 in the 40, 4.28 sec. shuttle, 37.3 inch vertical jump, 18 bench press reps. ... 10.6 100 meters, 315 lb. bench press, 3.0 GPA/17 ACT) from Dayton, Ohio Chaminade-Julienne. Harrison picked Michigan on Dec. 14 over Iowa (Dec. 3 visit). Michigan was an early favorite of Brandon and his dad's (they attended the Junior Day last Jan.), but when Notre Dame offered early and U-M didn't, Harrison picked the Irish; when ND fired Willingham he decommitted. Senior stats: he had four interceptions, and also played running back late in the season. He is Scout.com's #22 Midwest prospect and #17 defensive back.

- A greyshirt camp commitment for the 05/06 recruiting class: Cornerback Chris Richards (Sept. 25 Iowa game offic. visit, 05/06 commitment, '04 U-M camper, Nike Stats: 5-11 1/2, 170 lbs., 4.45 in the 40, 4.0 sec. shuttle, 36 inch vertical jump) from Monroe, Calif. Richards is a greyshirt commitment for the 05/06 recruiting class who will not Sign a Feb. '05 Letter of Intent; he will enter U-M in Jan. '06. He had a great Jan. '05 CaliFlorida game, where he shut down Fred Rouse, the nation's #1 WR prospect. He is Scout.com's #31 running back.

- Safety Nick Harris (Oct. 29 MSU game official visit, LSU Nike stats: 6-2 1/2, 209 lbs., 35 inch vertial jump, 4.2 sec. shuttle, 12 bench press reps., 22 ACT) from Alexandria, Louisiana. His visits are done; he tells GBW that his decision has been made, but that he will write a 'recruiting journal' for the local newspaper and delay his announcement until Signing Day, between Oklahoma (Sept. 10 visit), Texas A&M (Sept. 17), U-M (Oct. 29), LSU (Dec. 3, reportedly not in consideration), Neb (Dec. 10). Stats: as a senior he had 11 interceptions and 93 tackles. He is Scout.com's #58 Southeast prospect, and #9 linebacker.
Michigan's outlook for him, in GBW's eyes: 'guardedly optimistic'.

- Michigan commitment #8: Zoltan Mesko (6-3, 210 lbs.) from Twinsburg, Ohio. As a senior Mesko averaged 43.6 yards on punts with a 4.4-second hang time average. Thirteen of his punts were greater than 50 yards, and his longest was a 71-yarder. He also made 8-of-12 field-goal attempts, with a long of 47 yards. He was the East punter in the U.S. Army All American game on Jan. 15, and was also named USA Today 2nd Team All American.
