Johnny Sears Speaks on Commitment Status

With the apparent loss of grey-shirt commitment Chris Richards to Cal, the defensive back position becomes an even more important area for recruiting. Another California DB who is committed to Michigan, Johnny Sears from Edison High School in Fresno, gave Michigan recruiting fans a scare when he took an official visit to Oregon State this past weekend. Is he also considering a change of heart?
GoBlueWolverine Magazine spoke Thursday with California defensive back Johnny Sears from Edison High School in Fresno. Sears, one of two early West Coast Wolverine commitments, took an official visit to Oregon State this past weekend. In addition to the apparent change of heart by fellow Californian Chris Richards, Wolverine fans wondered what was happening out West. "I took the visit to Oregon State just to see a place I'd never been too before," Sears said. "I had a good time, and the area is beautiful but there isn't much to do there. They told me everythihg is up in Portland. But I'm solid for Michigan and will sign with them in Signing Day."

Sears said he wasn't sure if he would send his National Letter of Intent at midnight, or wait until later in the day.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Sears said he recently hosted a pair of Michigan visitors. "Coach Carr and Coach English were here last Sunday," he said. "It was nice to have them here. They said I could come in and get playing time this season, I'm looking foward to getting there."

When GBW last saw Sears, he was playing basketball for the Tigers. Cal Head Coach Jeff Tedford was in the stands. Is Cal persuing Sears? "I hardly hear from them," Sears said. "I haven't received any new offers." Edison hoops is off to a 12-5 start and are ranked No. 1 in the region. They play at Hoover Friday night.
