More Kentucky Love for Michigan: Javeare White

Yet another Kentucky standout has Michigan firmly at the top of his list of schools. Javeare White of Dupont Manual High School in Louisville, Ky., has multple close ties to the Michigan program.

GoBlueWolverine Magazine spoke Sunday with White and learned who the the other top schools are on his list. Does he have a Michigan offer? And will Michigan win out for him?
Blood is thicker than water, so the saying goes, and when you have the family ties to a school that athlete Javeare White (pronounced J-vee-air) has, you may wonder why isn't already in the Michigan fold. "James McKinney just signed with Michigan, he's my cousin on my dad's side," White said. "Grant Mason, who is already at Michigan, is another cousin of mine. Derek Woodmore, who played wide-receiver for Michigan in 1982 with (Anthony Carter) is my uncle." White said he was born in Pontiac, Mich., and moved to Kentucky when he was five.

Oh, and one more thing, Michigan was the first school to offer the 5-foot-10, 185-pound RB/DB. "They offered me back at their summer camp back last year," he said. I have always liked Michigan, their tradition, how they run their offense and defense, and I really like Coach (Lloyd) Carr."

And that's not all. "I met Braylon Edwards and talk to him all the time," White said. "I called him at the all-star game he was at last week, and he called me back later that night. He's one of my favorite players along with Barry Sanders and Charles Woodson. As a matter of fact, a lot of people compare me to those two (Sanders and Woodson). I wear No. 20 in honor of Barry Sanders. I also talk to Marlin Jackson and Steve Breaston."

So, with all that is connecting him to the Wolverines, why hasn't White made his pledge? "There's a possibility I could commit when I visit for Junior Day next weekend," he said. "But I really want to go through the whole process and see what's out there. I'd really like to announce at the Army All-American game; James told me a lot of the top players wait until then. If I get invited it would be fun to do that."

White was at the Army Junior Combine, where he reports a 4.4 in the 40, along with a 36-inch vertical leap. He also reports 19 reps at 185-pounds on the bench press. "I got to stay with James and Jamario O'Neal," White said. "It was a lot of fun and I hope to be there next year."

The other schools in the mix for White include LSU, his only other offer, and Michigan State, Clemson and Virginia Tech. He said those schools, along with Michigan, would be the most likely candidates for his official visits. He said Notre Dame was at one time high on his list. "I liked Notre Dame when Ty Willingham was coach," he said. "But since all that went down I'm not really too hot on them at the moment."

DuPont Manual finished the season 7-4, losing their last three games. White reports a grade-point-average of 3.5 to go with an ACT score of 20. He said he would like to major in engineering or sports management.
