James Aldridge Profile

Growing up Michigan fan because of his father's love for the Wolverines, running back James Aldridge of Merrillville, Ind., High School isn't necessarily a lock to spend the next four years in Ann Arbor. "Oklahoma State offered me today," he said. "I'm really intrigued by them; they are really pushing me hard because they really need a running back. I'm going down there for a spring practice and if I like it enough, I'll commit. They are my top school."

Aldridge said Missouri is the other school that has extended an offer to the talented runner. "They were the first to offer, when I was a sophomore," he said. Aldridge is originally from St. Louis. He transferred to Merrillville last year.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound back had a great junior season, rushing for 2,067 yards (7.3 yards per carry) and 20 touchdowns (he also caught 11 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns). But he tore his ACL in the last game of the year, a 31-0 loss to Penn in the state regional final. "I'm almost back to 100-percent," he said. "I'm running again and should be ready to go for the season."

Aldridge said he is also receiving interest from Michigan, Notre Dame, Purdue, Iowa, Ohio State, USC and North Carolina. "My coach just sent out a bunch of tapes (Thursday), so I hope to be getting more offers soon." He said Michigan was one of the schools that will receive a copy. "Coach (Andy) Moeller said he wanted to evaluate my tape before they offered," he said. "I grew up a fan of Michigan; my dad is a big fan so it wore off one me. I liked Ohio State too."

Aldridge said he has been compared to former Auburn star running back Bo Jackson. "A lot of people say I move like someone who weighs 180-pounds," he said. "I have a lot of quickness for my size." He said all schools are recruiting him for running back except one. "Kansas State wants me for free-safety," he said. "I didn't play defense last year but I really don't care where I play."

Illinois, Northern Illinois, Notre Dame, Michigan and Purdue have all stopped by Merrillville. "(Ohio State) Coach Tressel was here about a month ago," Aldridge said. "I went to the OSU Junior Day and my friend Nick Patterson goes to Ohio State. Another friend of mine, Munir Prince committed to Iowa; so you know how it goes, they are both trying to get me to come to their schools."

Aldridge said he would like to attend some one-day camps this summer, and just received his application for the Nike camps, though he isn't sure which camps he'll visit. He reports a 3.0 grade-point-average and said he would like to major in physical therapy. "I'd like to be a grad assistant and get into coaching," he said.
