Pa. QB Zach Frazer Looking to Make Early Decision

Quarterback Zach Frazer of Mechanicsburg, Pa., High School has three offers already and is receiving interest from other top schools. GoBlueWolverine Magazine spoke on Tuesday with the Pennsylvania State Player of the Year, who said he would visit several schools before making an early decision. Will a stop in Ann Arbor be part of the tour?
Along with State Player of the Year, quarterback Zach Frazer of Mechanicsburg, Pa., was named MVP of the Mid-Penn League, AP Player of the Year and was named District 3 Player of the Week three times along with many other accolades - and he still has one year remaining in his high school career. "I had seven touchdowns in one game, six passing and one running," he said. "I play for a team that runs 98-percent of its plays out of the shotgun and uses a five-receiver set most of the time." To say that Mechanicsburg throws a lot may be an understatement. During his junior campaign Frazer went 285 of 441 for 3,684-yards - a Pa. state record - and had 27 TD's passing to go along with 12 TD's rushing. He was intercepted only nine times.

Recruiting for the 6-foot-4, 209-pound hurler is in full swing, and he already lists offers from Georgia Tech, Duke and Notre Dame. The Yellow Jackets were the first to offer, with Duke following and the Fighting Irish jumping in three weeks ago. "I talked to Coach Weis when I was up there for their Junior Day; that's when he offered," Frazer said. "I really don't have a favorite because so many schools are sending mail. I want to look around and hopefully decide sometime before my season begins."

Frazer said Michigan is one of the schools staying in contact with him. "I'm very interested in Michigan," he said. "I had been getting letters and e-mailing with coach Bill Sheridan (before he left for the New York Giants). And I was up there last season for the Michigan State game; that game was something else, and I took a tour of the campus."

Having already attended Junior Days at Notre Dame, Penn State and Purdue, Frazer said he will go up to Syracuse, and he'd like to visit North Carolina State. "I'm going up for their Junior Days," he said. "I'm also planning on visiting them during their spring practices." He said he will attend the Nike Camp at Penn State, and is considering attending the Nike Camp at Miami. School camps aren't as certain. "If I do attend any school camps it will only be for a day, depending on how much time I have," he said.

Frazer reports a 3.0 grade-point-average, and said he has taken the SAT but wished to keep the results private. He said he isn't sure what major he will choose once he gets to college, but is looking into business, engineering, or education.
