Calif., RB/DB Stafon Johnson: Expanding Horizons

Running back/defensive back Stafon Johnson of Dorsey High School in Los Angeles now reports 13 offers from top programs across the country. National Recruiting Analyst Allen Wallace gets the latest from the talented star.

Los Angeles (Calif.) running back/defensive back Stafon Johnson (6-0, 200, 4.45) now claims he does not have a top five. This big-time prospect from Susan Miller Dorsey High School has nailed rides from Michigan, USC, Oregon, Oklahoma, Colorado, Texas A&M, Florida, Georgia, California, Washington, UCLA, Washington State and Oregon State.

"I don't really have a decision on a top five right now. The schools that I'm interested in right now are Michigan, USC, Cal, Tennessee, Florida and Miami. All of them have offered me and they're all even for me right now," said Johnson.

"I think I'll have a solid top five right before the season starts. Right now I'm kind of undecided on what my plans for summer are. I know that I'll definitely camp at USC though.

"Right now Florida is the school that's recruiting me the hardest. They keep in touch with me a lot and they send me some great letters and stuff like that.

"I like Michigan's program. They play a great style of football---it's real hard core, rough-nosed ball and they don't mind getting dirty.

"USC is right in my backyard. They're one of the top programs in the country and I've got a real close connection with coach (Todd) McNair (running backs). I mean, who wouldn't want to go there?

"Cal is a great up-and-coming program and it would be great to be a part of what they're doing with the program. I'm real down for something like that.

"Tennessee produces a lot of great RBs and they've been successful on the next level as well. It's somewhat of an running back university over there," he said.

"I also really like both Florida and Miami. They're both known for putting a lot of players into the NFL and I really like them because of that. That's something that'll play a big role in my decision.

"All of these schools are recruiting me as running back and I know for sure that Miami, Florida and Cal are recruiting me to play both running back and defensive back. I really don't have a preference on playing one position over the other. As long as I'm on the field, I really don't care," he said.

"I want to make my commitment to a program closer to Signing Day still."
