Will Brown Make Summer Visit?

Columbus, Ind. native Steve Brown is planning to take an unofficial visit to Notre Dame this summer. The question is, will he last that long before choosing childhood favorite Michigan?

It's not often that Columbus, Ind. has a star athlete being recruited by the likes of Ohio State, Purdue, Notre Dame and Michigan. But that is exactly the case with Steve Brown, S, 6-1, 200-pounds, Columbus, Ind., (East).

Brown can play a number of positions, and depending upon the school recruiting him, could end up at running back, wide receiver or safety in college.

Some people have even mentioned Brown as a potential cornerback, but Brown dismissed that notion.

"I don't know why they do that," Brown said convincingly. "Everybody is recruiting me as a safety. Except for some schools like Vanderbilt, Northwestern…they just said they want me."

Although several schools covet Brown's talent, it looks like a two-team race, with one probably having the edge.

"I go to Michigan on Wednesday (June 15). Michigan is having an academic day so I can see that side of the school," said Brown. "I am going to Notre Dame this sometime this summer, but I don't know when yet."

Brown does not plan on attending any summer camps this summer so his travel schedule should be light.

What is Brown looking for in a school?

"I just want to go some place that I would feel comfortable playing football the next four years," Brown said.

SMITTY'S TAKE: Brown is a humble young man. He is taking a look at several schools, but in the end I will be very surprised if he does not choose Michigan. There appears to be a good chance that Brown will make a pledge to the Wolverines next week. That's just how I see it. He is very comfortable with Michigan.

If for some reason Brown does hold out and makes an unofficial visit to Notre Dame, all bets are off.
