Edwards & Ritter UM Players of the Year

The naming of the Michigan male and female athletes of the year took place earlier this week when wide receiver Braylon Edwards and pitcher Jennie Ritter took home the honors.

In Braylon Edwards' final year wearing the winged helmet he caught 97 balls for 1,330 yards and 15 touchdowns and was the Biletnikoff Award winner as college football's top receiver. He finished his career as Michigan's all-time leader in receptions (252), receiving yards (3,542), touchdowns (39) and 100-yard receiving games (16).

Jennie Ritter's junior campaign was even more memorable, as she notched 38-4 record with a 0.92 earned run average in 288.2 innings pitched while leading the women's softball team to its first ever national title.

Edwards is now candidate for the for the Big Ten Conference Jesse Owens Male Athlete of the Year and Ritter, the Suzy Favor Female Athlete of the Year awards.
