Iowa was the first to offer tight end Nate Byham of Franklin, Pa., High School. This week he paid the Hawkeye campus a visit. "It was the first time I'd been to Iowa," Byham said. "The place is really nice. I liked the athletic complex and the weight room. They were tearing up the field but the facilities overall were very impressive."

Reporting over 20 offers now, the 6-foot-5, 220-pound Byham originally planned on making a stop in Ann Arbor during his return from Iowa. However, signals got crossed and he'll need to reschedule. "For some reason I wasn't able to get hold of the coaches on the way back," he said. "But I'm definitely going to visit, probably in July. I grew up a Michigan fan and I'm around a lot of people who like Michigan. I've been there before I was a prospect."

Byham said most schools, including Michigan and Iowa, are recruiting him for the tight end spot. a few schools, including West Virginia, are looking at him at the slot receiver position. "Boston College and a couple others are looking at me for linebacker," he said. "I like tight end and will play there in college."

Not only a talented football player, Byham said he was selected second team All-State in basketball, and will be spending the summer playing both sports. "We'll be playing in some seven-on-seven tournaments. I'll be at Pitt this weekend and Kent State next weekend," he said. "Then I'll be playing in summer league basketball and in some AAU tournaments. In July I'll be playing in the AAU National Tournament in Orlando. I'll visit Miami when I'm down there for that." Byham declined to name a leader, but has stated in the past that the Hurricanes, along with Pitt, are his two favorites.

What is the talented athlete looking for in a school? "I mainly want to make sure I like the campus and the people," he said. "I know wherever I go they will have a good football team, so I want to be comfortable with everything else."

Byham said that while he is undecided on a major at this point, he is considering a business-oriented path. "I'm not sure how my grades are on a 4.0 scale, but I have a 92-percent score," he said. "I took the new SAT and got a 1470, which would be around 1000 on the old test."

He said he wants to take all if his official visits before deciding, and has one already planned. "I'll be taking one official visit to USC in September," he said.
