Lauderdale Fla., is the No. 2 offensive line in the South Region according to The talented Young returned from a Midwest tour which included stops in South Bend and Ann Arbor. spoke Tuesday with Young about the trip, and his plans for narrowing down his impressive list of schools.

Offensive lineman Sam Young of St. Augustine High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., spent the end of last week on the road. The first stop on his Midwest tour was South Bend, Ind., and the campus of Notre Dame. It was the first visit to the South Bend for's No. 2-ranked player in the South. "I was really impressed," he said. "It was one of the most beautiful campuses I've ever been on. It was a lot more than I expected."

Young said he made the trek north with his mom, dad, and brother, and they spent Thursday touring the Notre Dame campus and getting to know the staff. On Friday, the quartet made their way to Ann Arbor. This was the second visit for Young and his father, and the first for mom and little bro. "They were very impressed with Michigan," Young said. "My mom was really impressed with the academic support system, and she really liked the school."

The 6-foot-7, 280-pound Young visited Stanford earlier in the spring, and compared the West Coast program with the two Midwest schools. "Each one is a top school, and I couldn't go wrong with any of them," he said. "Notre Dame and Michigan have more tradition with their football programs, but all three are top academic schools, tops in the country outside of the Ivy's."

Young said he spent most of Friday talking with Michigan offensive line coach Andy Moeller. "We went over a lot of tape," Young said. "He was showing tape of Michigan offense, and we looked at tape of my games. He wanted to find out if the two offenses were similar. I was surprised at how similar ours (offense) is to Michigan's. I also got to talk to some of the players. I didn't get to do that last time we were up here."

At one time, Young said he wanted to narrow down his list by the end of May. That time has come and gone, but he said things were becoming clearer. "We're getting a pretty good idea of what schools are going to be on the final list," he said. "I could see Stanford, Notre Dame, and Michigan being on the list, but we haven't completely decided yet. I want to get it done soon. I probably won't take any more visits over the summer. I'll save any more visits for my official trips." Penn State and Florida are two schools that could also make the final tally. Young said the Nittany Lions and Gators were recruiting him the hardest.
