GoBlueWolverine.com was in attendance Saturday at the 54th Annual Southern California Shrine All-Star Football Classic at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut. The focus of the evening was 2005 Michigan defensive back signee Chris Richards. However, one top Wolverine target for the class of 2006 was in the stands, and GBW had a chance to speak with him.
"I'm going back to Michigan for an official visit on Sept. 10, for the Notre Dame game," safety Jonas Mouton of Venice High School said. "I'm probably going to visit Nebraska the weekend before, but that's not set yet."
Venice opens the season Sept. 9, and Mouton said he will leave for Ann Arbor immediately following the game. "I've never been to Michigan so I'm really looking forward to the trip," he said. "I've been to (Washington) D.C. with my dad, but that's it as far as being back east."
The 6-foot-2, 212-pound safety, said that while he hasn't narrowed down a top five at this time, he is getting close. "I'll probably have it down in the next month or so," he said. "You can say Michigan and Nebraska will be in it. I have some other schools that are trying to get me to visit, but I haven't decided on those yet."
Mouton said that he went up against Richards in a passing league tournament last summer. "He's real good," Mouton said. "I was playing safety and he was a receiver, and he has some pretty good moves and was tough to cover. I want to talk to him more about Michigan."
