Michigan commitment K'Len Morris started strong, averaging about 15 points per game in his first three contests. He turned a few heads with a couple of athletic plays, one coming on a one-handed slam over a 6'8 forward that was attempting to block his shot, and another ‘almost' throw-down over three post players that failed when he lost the ball as he tried to put it into the rim. As was the case at the NBA Camp, his real value has come in his ability to do a number of things on the court besides score. He's done a good job both rebounding and distributing the ball. His lowest output came in the last game of the night against a team featuring Eric Gordon and Gerald Henderson. He only scored a few baskets, but had about 6 rebounds and 4 assists while playing pretty good defense on Henderson. When the dust settled, Morris' squad lost a nail-biter in overtime.
When Michigan assistant coach Andy Moore wasn't at K'len Morris' game, he was seen watching Buffalo, N.Y. wing Lazar Haywood. Haywood has lived up to his billing as an excellent scorer and the Wolverines may increase their pursuit after his showing. More on Haywood to come.
This Las Vegas point guard has recently mentioned Michigan as one of the top schools on his list, and the interest seems to be somewhat mutual. If the unforeseen happens, and Saginaw Buena Vista's Tory Jackson goes elsewhere, then Lawrence could really shoot up the target list. Michigan assistant Andy Moore was seen watching him closely.
The Saginaw big man got off to a slow start but, reportedly picked things up as the night went on. He's really impressed scouts with his ability to get up and down the floor. The Spartans lead for the 6-foot-9, 250-pounder, but the Wolverines are attempting to make up ground. For those that missed our pre-camp update on Southern, click HERE.
A few names of interest that the Wolverines are observing in Georgia are Ohio prospects Rayshawn Goins and Yancey Gates. We will also be checking up on Arkansas native, Jonathan Uchendu. More on these prospects and other new names to come later.
