How Good Can The '06 U-M FB Recruiting Class Be?

The top Michigan recruits according to's latest rankings. Given that this will be another smallish class (16-18 in number), how highly ranked can it be? You may be amazed -- the Wolverines have more top 50 recruits than any year in recent memory! Fully half of's Top 10 list Michigan, as do half of the Top 20 and almost half of the Top 50 -- and U-M's first two verbal commitments are both in the Top 30.

Michigan's Top 50 Recruits (click HERE for's complete rankings lists):

(1) Myron Rolle S/CB 6'2 210 4.53 Princeton The Hun School New Jersey. He will make a late summer decision and enter college in January. His finalists: U-M, Oklahoma, the three Florida schools and PSU.

(4) Steve Schilling OL 6'4 290 Bellevue Washington. Michigan and Washington will make his final 5 for sure. He visited Michigan May 22-23.

(7) Percy Harvin WR/DB 5'11 182 4.34 Virginia Beach Landstown Virginia. Harvin has recently named a final five, and the Wolverines are in it, along with Florida State, Miami, Florida, and Southern Cal. U-M's 'hook': Harvin's sister attends Eastern Michigan University.

(9) Sam Young OL 6'7 295 5.00 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas Florida. He visited U-M just before the start of Camp. He has narrowed his list to 7, including U-M and also USC, Stanford, Notre Dame, Penn State, Miami and Florida.

(10) Micah Johnson DL/LB 6'2 277 4.70 Fort Campbell Kentucky. Johnson has a top 12, and says Michigan and Georgia will make his final cut to a top 5, along with Kentucky. He also lists Auburn, Penn State, Louisville, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

(12) Michigan Commitment #1: Brandon Graham LB 6'1 235 4.40 Detroit Crockett Michigan.

(14) Mitch Mustain QB 6'3 200 4.72 Springdale Arkansas. He visited U-M for a spring practice and will visit U-M again in late July after the Elite 11, and he'll decide soon after, between Arkansas, Texas, U-M and possibly others.

(15) Taylor Mays S 6'3 210 4.40 Seattle O'Dea Washington. Michigan is in his top three with USC and possibly Washington. He will visit U-M on July 26-27 and decide soon after.

(16) Stafon Johnson RB 6'0 200 4.40 Los Angeles Dorsey California. He lists a top five of USC, Cal, Miami, Florida, and Michigan. There are Big Ten connections on the Dorsey coaching staff.

(17) Jamar Hornsby WR/DB 6'4 195 4.45 Jacksonville Sandalwood Florida. Florida leads over U-M; he also lists Georgia, Georgia Tech and USC.

(28) U-M Commitment #2: Justin Boren OL 6'3 319 5.20 Pickerington North Ohio.

(35) Tim Tebow QB 6'3 225 4.61 (38 bench press reps at Talahassee Nike) St. Augustine Nease Florida. He made an unofficial visit to U-M a year ago. Tebow goes on a mission in July, then to the Elite 11 in late July, then should narrow his schools to five -- possibly Florida, Michigan, USC, Alabama and South Carolina, but possibly FSU and Miami as well.

(40) DeMarco Murray RB/DB 6'0 185 4.49 Las Vegas Bishop Gorman Nevada. He will visit U-M for the July 30 Recruiting Day. He lists a top 10 of Florida, Michigan, Southern Cal, Miami, FSU, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, LSU and Penn State. Of that group, he has visited Oklahoma (camped for a day; his former teammate Ryan Reynolds is a Sooner), Florida and USC so far.

(41) Antwine Perez CB 6'2 195 4.53 Camden Woodrow Wilson New Jersey. Perez has named a final three: U-M (Sept. 3 official visit), USC (Sept. 17) and LSU (Sept. 24). Perez will decide in the fall and enter college in January.

(42) Jonas Mouton S 6'2 212 4.50 Venice California. Has has scheduled a U-M official visit for Sept. 10 for the ND game. U-M and Nebraska are in his final 5, plus LSU is a threat (he grew up in the Bayou), and Oklahoma and USC are in the race for him as well.

(46) Chris Bell WR/DB 6'4 205 4.50 Norfolk Granby Virginia. He has expanded his list lately from a top 4-5, but U-M is still on it. The Florida schools may lead.

(49) Devin Ross 5'11 180 4.45 Rancho Cucamonga California. U-M has just offered him, as has Washington.

In addition, Michigan is possibly still in it for (6) WR Vidal Hazelton, (21) OL Connor Smith, (24) LB Josh Tatum, (26) LB Akeem Hebron, (30) TE Nate Byham, (48) CB Jai Eugene.

Michigan's Top 100 Recruits:

(78) Darrin Walls CB 6'1 185 4.37 Pittsburgh Woodland Hills Pennsylvania (the alma mater of Steve Breason and Ryan Mundy). U-M and Notre Dame remain his co-leaders, with Florida strong as well. The pure cover corner will not decide before the season starts.

(84) Cobrani Mixon LB 6'2 220 4.60 Cincinnati Colerain Ohio. He attended the U-M Camp and favors Michigan and may well commit in early July, although he visited Louisville and may visit another school or two first. He also attended U-M's winter Junior day.

(92) Steve Brown S/CB 6'1 200 4.39 Columbus East Indiana. He plans a summer decision between U-M and Notre Dame.

(95) Jeremiha Hunter LB/RB 6'1 199 4.40 Manheim Central Pennsylvania (may transfer to Bishop McDivett). Jeremiha lists a top 9 of Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, UConn, Tennessee, Georgia, Notre Dame, Florida, and Iowa. Iowa, OSU and U-M are listed most prominently.

In addition, Michigan is possibly still in it for (57) RB Knowshon Moreno, (59) OL Butch Lewis, (62) David Ausberry, (77) LB Brandon Spikes.
