CB Devin Ross Talks About Michigan Offer

As Scout.com reported last week, 5-star defensive back Devin Ross of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., High School was impressive enough at a recent combine to garner a Michigan offer. GoBlueWolverine.com spoke with Ross about his thoughts on the offer, and where Michigan now stands in his recruiting.

Defensive back Devin Ross of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., High School recently attended a combine hosted by Washington Redskins DB coach DeWayne Walker. By accounts of most in attendance, Ross was the top performer of the camp, which included Michigan signee Johnny Sears. Another Wolverine was also in attendance as Michigan defensive back coach Ron English was one of the coaches on hand to drill the participants.

Obviously the Wolverine coach was impressed with Ross as well, because shortly after the camp Ross received an offer from Michigan. "I called Michigan before the camp and talked with Coach English," Ross said. "Then he worked with me at the camp and showed me a lot of things and helped me a lot. I really like him and I was happy to get the offer. Michigan is definitely on of my favorites though I haven't really picked out a top five or anything." Ross said he also recently received an offer from Utah, bringing his total to 16.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Ross said Arizona was the first to offer. Another top program, USC, had a coach at the Walker combine yet the Trojans have yet to offer, Ross said. He also stated he has set up a Sept. 3 official visit to the University of Nebraska. "I've always wanted to check them out," he said. "I don't know if they'll be in my top list at the end. We'll see."

Ross also runs track for the Cougars, and said his schedule prevented him from attending any camps during the spring. He said he participates in the 100 and 200-meter events, and is the anchor leg on the 4X100 relay team. He reports a 4.45 in the 40.

Will distance be a factor in his decision? "Not a bit," he said. "I want to take all of my visits before I decide and when a college feels good, it doesn't matter where it is."

Sports Illustrated was also impressed with the No. 2-ranked cornerback in the country according to Scout.com. The national sports magazine named Ross as one of the top CB's in the West. "It's a great honor to be selected by SI," Ross said. "My best friend, Darian Hagan, was picked as a top DB too."
