ABCD Interviews: Ellis & Walker

While at the ABCD camp in Teaneck, New Jersey, GoBlueWolverine's Andre Barthwell spoke with Cincinnati big man Keenan Ellis and Illinois PG William Walker and got the latest on where Michigan stands in their recruitments.

As we noted previously with Keenan Ellis after observing him at the Spiece Run-N-Slam tournament and the NBA top 100 camp, the six-foot eleven-inch 200-pounder is a power forward that plays more like a small forward. His perimeter skills are advanced for a kid his size, as has been demonstrated by his ability to sink jumpers from 15-feet all of the way out to the three-point line. On the other hand, his slender frame allows for him to get muscled in the post and he hasn't yet developed a post game. Still, he is one of the top prospects in the 2007 class and is giving Michigan early mention.

What are some things that you see right now that you need to work on in your game?

"My defense. I run the floor well, but I would like to keep working at where as when I am running I don't get tired just conditioning."

What are your top five colleges that you are looking at right now?

"Michigan, Indiana, Louisville, Kentucky, Xavier, and Florida A&M."

Have you had any contact or offers from any of those schools?

"I don't really check up on my letters. They usually go to my mom or my coaches, so I am not for sure."

What made you attend North College Hill with O.J. Mayo and Bill Walker?

"Well I was just looking out for my future I have already been playing with those guys in AAU ball for the last two years. It has been a great transition for me playing there and going to school."

William Walker is pass first shoot second point guard from Bolingbrook Illinois. At 6-0 175-lbs. he does a good job of getting his teammates involved, but also has a nice mid range game. He could move up the Wolverines 2006 target list if Tory Jackson decides not to don the Maize and Blue.

What will be your determining factors when you pick a school?

"Really it will be the playing time that's available and the style that the team plays. I don't want to go to a school and not fit in with the style of play. That is one of the worst situations to get into. I want to make sure before I get there that I fit in with the team's style."

What schools are heavily recruiting you right now?

"Connecticut, Wake Forest, North Carolina State, Georgia Tech and Michigan. They kind of got started late though."

I know you said Michigan got started late. Where are they with your recruiting and do you have a leader?

"Everybody is right there. Nobody is giving me that kind of attention where I can just shut everyone out. I do have interest in Michigan. Besides they are closer to home than anyone else I am looking at."

Has Michigan contacted you yet?

"Yes. I have talked to Coach Swenson and I've also talked to Coach Moore. We talked about the opportunities at Michigan. They are going to need a guard with the ability to come in and play right away…and possibly start. I really enjoyed hearing that. He also talked about some of the talent that is coming in. I was very interested in that. I would like to come in and play and be with a very competitive team."
