Wolverines Devour Eagles, 55-0

Michigan got to tune up its offensive and defensive engines, and to work on depth by giving snaps to a lot of new backups, as the Wolverines rolled over its Ypsi neighbors. Here are the game scoring summary, key stats, and game participants.

Scoring Summary

First Quarter

EMU took the opening kickoff and went 3 and out, and Steve Breaston took the ensuing punt back 72 yards to the EMU 9. Three rushes later Max Martin scored the TD. Michigan 7, EMU 0 at the 13:03 mark.

EMU took the ensuing kickoff and went 3 and out again, and the 4th down snap went over the head of the punter to the EMU 20. Three more Max Martin rushes later he scored his second TD. Michigan 14, EMU 0 at the 11:00 mark.

EMU took the ensuing kickoff and went 3 and out again, and Michigan took the punt at the EMU 49. This time Chad Henne went to the air, completing 4 of 5, including a 14 yard TD pass to Jason Avant. Michigan 21, EMU 0 at the 7:23 mark.

EMU took the ensuing kickoff and went 3 and out again, as did U-M, and as did EMU again -- but a poor EMU punt gave U-M the ball at the EMU 40. Four plays later Henne threw a 26 yard TD pass to Avant. Michigan 28, EMU 0 at the 0:02 mark.

Second Quarter

EMU went 3 and out and U-M took the ball back at the U-M 39. This time Kevin Grady rushed 3 times for 23 yards and caught a pass for 17 more, and Henne completed a 6 yard TD pass to Brian Thompson to make it U-M 35, EMU 0 at the 8:22 mark.

EMU took the ensuing kickoff and got 2 first downs on 19 and 33 yard pass plays before throwing an interception to Morgan Trent at the U-M 12 yard line at the 6:05 mark. Max Martin rushed 9 times for 38 yards and Henne completed an 11 yard pass to Avant and a 17 yarder to TE Mike Massey, and Garrett Rivas kicked a 37 yard field goal at the 0:24 mark. At the half it was Michigan 38-EMU 0.

Third Quarter

Carl Tabb took the Michigan kickoff 38 yards to the U-M 39 yard line. With Matt Qutierrez at quarterback (for the whole half), Max Martin rushed 5 times for 25 yards, Gutierrez completed 2 passes including a 13 yarder to Mario Maningham, and James Bloomsburgh kicked a 37 yard field goal. Michigan 41, EMU 0 at the 9:01 mark.

EMU took the ensuing kickoff and recorded 3 first downs, then punted to U-M at the U-M 12 at the 2:10 mark.

Fourth Quarter

Starting at the 2:10 mark of the 3rd quarter at the U-M 12, Grady, Martin and Jerome Jackson rush 6 times and Gutierrez completed a 22 yard pass to Mario Manningham and an 11 yarder to Antonio Bass; Jackson scored the TD on a 6 yard rush. Michigan 48-EMU 0 at the 13:48 mark.

EMU went 3 and out one more time, and U-M took the ball at the EMU 41. Elijah Bradley rushed 5 times for 23 yards and Gutierrez passed twice to Carl Tabb, including a 17 yarder. Bradley scored a TD on a 2 yard run. U-M 55, EMU 0 at the 8:37 mark.

-- RB: Max Martin started at RB. Kevin Grady (30 yards on 8 carries) got a fair amount of snaps as well, and Jerome Jackson and Elijah Bradley also carried the ball.
-- OL: Mark Bihl started at OC with Adam Kraus at RG (Matt Lentz sat out the game). Alex Mitchell played much of the 2nd half, substituting at RG, LG and LT. Jeremy Ciulla played in the 4th quarter at LG with Mitchell at LT.
-- WR: Mario Manningham (2 rec.) and Antonio Bass (1 rec.) both got a fair amount of action, with Carl Tabb playing as well.
-- DL: DE Tim Jamison played in the 2nd half and DT Marques Walton played in the 4th quarter.
-- LB: Shawn Crable played much of the 2nd half. Brandon Logan got some snaps as well.
