Hockey: Michigan Catapults to No. 1

On Monday, the Michigan hockey team became the No. 1-ranked team in the land. Although early in the season, the Wolverines climbed from No. 7 last week to No. 1 this week thanks to a 3-2 win over Boston College and a few key losses around the nation this weekend.

Well, it didn't take long. Despite having the youngest roster in program history, the University of Michigan hockey team has climbed the polls to the No. 1 slot. Only two weekends into the season, Michigan has worked their way into the top spot after four wins to begin the season.

However, following the Wolverines win over then No. 4 Boston College on Friday, the schedule doesn't get any easier. On Saturday, the No. 10-ranked Spartans come to Ann Arbor for the first of four intrastate clashes.

The following weekend, the No. 1 Wolverines head to Alaska for a two game series against the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, a team that walked away from then No. 1 Minnesota with a win and a tie last weekend.

Michigan is followed in the polls by fellow CCHA teams Ohio State (No. 2/3), Michigan State (No. 10/10), Northern Michigan (No. 16/UR), and Alaska-Fairbanks (No. 19/UR).
