In Search Of: a Top Ten Instate Juniors List

OCT. 31 UPDATE: The top junior in the State of Michigan is easy to pick. Four or five others are easy to add to a Top Ten. But the final four or five -- not so easy. GBW has seen most of them in action now, so ... here are the contenders as we close in on GoBlueWolverine's Top Ten Instate Juniors.

The Top Junior in the state:
-- DB Ronald Johnson (6-0, 190) from Muskegon High School. The '05 U-M camper attended the first two Michigan home games and has a U-M offer. He unfortunately suffered an ACL injury early this season.

Also belonging in the Top Five:

-- CB Dionte Allen (6-0, 180) from Orchard Lake St. Mary's. OLSM plays their games on Saturday afternoons so he could not attend U-M games this fall. However, he was a '05 U-M Camper, attended the last summer U-M Recruiting Day, and has a Michigan offer.

-- QB Keith Nichol (6-2, 185) from Lowell Michigan. He was an '05 U-M Camper where he performed similarly to James Stallons below ... but with a sub-4.6 40 he will fit in well with the MSU offense, where he already committed.

Solid picks for the Top Ten:

-- TE David 'Rocky' Weaver (6-5, 210) from Battle Creek Harper Creek. He has been to three U-M games so far this fall.

-- OL Darris Sawtelle (6-5, 285) from Birmingham Brother Rice.

-- WR Mark Dell (6-1, 175) from Farmington Hills Harrison. He has an MSU offer.

Other possible picks for the Top Ten:

-- LB Chris Colasanti (6-2, 220) from Birmingham Brother Rice.

-- WR Taurian Washington (6-1, 170) from Orchard Lake St. Mary's.

-- RB/WR Kelvin Grady (5-10, 160) from East Grand Rapids. The younger brother of Wolverine Kevin Grady has been spotted at two U-M games so far this fall, with his cousin DeMarcus (see below).

-- LM Joseph Barksdale (6-4, 300) from Detroit Cass Tech. He is a two-time U-M Camper.

Note: that is ten kids, but it is still a little bit early to call them THE TOP TEN. Here are others who could very well 'move up' once we have scouted them in action, etc.

Others to Watch Closely: (any of these guys could well be Top Ten Instate Seniors next fall, could wind up with Big Ten offers, etc.)

-- FB/DL Vince Helmuth (6-2, 250) from Saline, Mich. Saline is right next door to Ann Arbor, and Vince has been to every U-M game this fall. He was also an '05 U-M Camper as a DL ... his college future is more likely as a fullback.

-- QB/PK Audie Cole (6-3, 190) from Monroe High School. He has been to three U-M games so far this fall.
-- QB James Stallons (6-3, 190) from Macomb Dakota. The '05 U-M Camper has been to three U-M games so far this fall.

-- OL Ryan Wheat (6-4, 285) from Flint Carman-Ainsworth. U-M Commitment Quintin Patilla's teammate has been to four games so far this fall.

-- LB Terrell Willis (6-2, 210) from Jackson Lumen Christi. The friend of Wolverine Antonio Bass has been to two games so far this fall.

-- S/PK Shane Torzy (6-0, 180) from Warren DeLaSalle. He has attended two games so far this fall.

-- QB DeMarcus Grady (6-2, 180) from East Grand Rapids. The cousin of Wolverine Kevin Grady has been spotted at two U-M games so far this fall, with his brother Kelvin.

-- LB Brandon Reynolds (6-0, 230) from Battle Creek Central -- we have not seen him in person, so it's possible he should be listed higher.

-- RB Darius Johnson (6-0, 200) from Highland Park.

Others To Watch who have visited for U-M games this fall: (these guys could also end up as Top-Ten'ers)

-- LB Ryan Van Bergen (6-3, 200) from Whitehall. He has attended two games so far this fall.

-- TE/LB Kevin Pickleman (6-4, 210) from Marshall. He has attended two games so far this fall.

-- OL Mike VanDerMeulen (6-5, 250) from Marshall. He has attended three games so far this fall.

-- Ath. Chris Rucker (5-10, 170) from Detroit Country Day. He attended the PSU game.

-- WR/CB Brandon Carnegie (5-11, 170) from Novi. He attended the Minnesota game.

-- LM Josh Droppers (6-2, 300) from Portage Northern. He attended the Notre Dame game.

GBW has seen most but not all of the kids above, and it is likely that there are a few kids who belong on the above lists who we haven't found yet ... so stay tuned.
