Micah Johnson: Two Above The Grade

Micah Johnson says two schools are currently "above the grade" and another is coming on. Johnson, from Fort Campbell (Ky.) is one of the nation's top prospects and he will be featured on Fox Sports Net South's Countdown to Signing Day tonight.

One of the nation's most sought after high school football prospects is Micah Johnson from Fort Campbell (Ky.) High School. Johnson, currently 6-2 and 251 pounds, plays running back and middle linebacker and is a five-star recruit. Scout.com also rates him as the No. 1 defensive tackle prospect in the country but he doesn't think that's the position he'll play at the next level. Well, at least for now.

"It looks like I will play running back or middle linebacker," said Johnson. "At least that is what the schools are telling me. Kentucky and Louisville want me as a back while everyone else says I can play linebacker."

Johnson's Fort Campbell high school team is 10-0 and in the playoffs this Friday night. On the season Johnson has around 1,000 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. Defensively he has 93 tackles and two sacks. Those are good numbers for anyone but you need to consider that Johnson usually only plays a half of football because they win by such a wide margin.

"It can sometimes get frustrating because you put in the work. But at the same time it gives our younger guys some experience. That's cool. Plus, we are winning and that's what this is all about. Now that we are in the playoffs we expect to play in tighter games so I can play more."

Whether they make a sustained playoff run or not recruiting will only pick up for Johnson. He has thus far taken one official visit and that was to the University of Georgia back in September. And he still has a lasting impression of the UGA.

"It was such a great visit. I love the coaches there and the city of Athens really surprised me. It is so nice and has so much to offer."

So who besides Georgia is on Johnson's short list?

"Virginia Tech, Michigan, Notre Dame, Kentucky and Louisville are the teams I like with Georgia. I have been to games at UGA, Kentucky and Louisville and I am going to try and get to Louisville (vs. Pittsburgh) this Thursday and Notre Dame (vs. Tennessee) this Saturday. I am not sure if it will work out but I will try on both games.

"Notre Dame is a team that is coming on with me. I love what Coach (Charlie) Weis has done with the team. They have made quite an impression on me.

"I am trying to narrow some things down and at the same time remain open minded because I don't want to cut anyone off too quickly."

With six schools remaining in the hunt for one of the best "big" athletes in the country does he have a leader or leaders at this point?

"Well, if I had to say it would be Georgia and Kentucky. Right now they are above the grade."
