DE McKenzie Mathews U-M Visit Undecided

With one official visit to Ohio State already in the books, Syracuse, N.Y., product McKenzie Mathews has several other schools he has set his sights on. The defensive end is hoping to get a November visit in, but his teams success on the field may alter that desire. spoke with Mathews on Wednesday.

Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, N.Y. is 9-0 and heading into the Sectional Championships this Friday to face an old nemesis, Fayettville-Manilus. The Brothers squared off against Hornets in the Section Championship last season, defeating them 49-13 en rout to the Class AA State Championship. "They're undefeated and will tough," CBA defensive end McKenzie Mathews said. "We're looking to get through them though and win it all again."

CBA is coming off a 66-21 thrashing of Utica Proctor, in which they scored 57 first-half points. The No. 1 Brothers are expected to repeat as AA Champs. The ride to that end my disrupt the recruiting schedule of their three star defensive talent. "I'm looking to visit Michigan for the Ohio State game," Mathews said. "But that might not happen is we're still playing. I would probably reschedule this visit if I can't make it for the game."

Mathews was at Ohio State for their match-up against Michigan State on Oct. 15. "It was incredible seeing all those people," he said. "It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the visit and now have something to gauge my other visits on. I don't have a real favorite now, but do like OSU, Michigan, Pitt, Penn State, Alabama, Miami, and Syracuse. I do want to schedule an official visit to Miami, but haven't done so yet."

The three-star prospect is friends with Michigan sophomore running back Mike Hart, and spoke with him on Weds. "I told him he was a punk," Mathews said laughing. "He gets an off-week to heal up from his injuries, but he should be good to go against Indiana. We don't get off-weeks in high school."

Mathews said he is averaging 8-tackles per game, has one interception, and three fumble recoveries. The time frame for his decision isn't set, as said he would like to make it after he's completed his visits. "Definitely sometime between Dec. 1 and February," he said.

Note: Mathews was unclear when asked whether or not he had a offer from Michigan. However, believes an offer isn't yet on the table, but that one may still be forthcoming.
