When Dante Jackson went to the gym for his workout this weekend, there were a few highly anticipated visitors in the stands to watch him go through his routine. Michigan headman Tommy Amaker and assistant Andrew Moore made the three-plus hour trek to Greenfield to get a closer look at Jackson's skills. Moore had witnessed the youngster's talent on numerous previous occasions (one of which was the AAU Nationals back in July when he had his breakout showing). Amaker, on the other hand, had not.
"He saw me on film a couple of times, but that was the first time he saw me in person," Jackson said of Amaker. "We just talked about how nice it was for him to get down and see me. He wants to get me back on campus. I talked to coach Moore today too and he said they liked the way I shot the ball, my intensity, and all of the small characteristics that I have."
According to Jackson, Michigan's standing in the race for his services was certainly enhanced by Amaker's visit. That was important since Dayton and Xavier are both prominent programs in his recruitment as well. Both have offered, and are the two schools, along with Michigan, that are recruiting him the hardest. The Flyers picked up some momentum with him when they received the commitment of national top-50 player (and former Michigan recruit) Chris Wright. That said, Michigan picked up a little more.
"It's having a small effect," Jackson said of Wright's pledge to Dayton. "But you know, Coach Amaker coming down has a pretty big effect itself. It has obviously made me stop to think about some things. Dayton, Michigan, and Xavier would probably be my top three schools right now because of the high interest that they've had in me. Coach Amaker…that really was awesome! That just tells me how my recruitment has heated up a little bit form their end. I think it can only get better."
With the interest on both sides obviously on the rise, the logical question is was an offer extended. The answer is, not quite yet. "He really didn't touch down on that, and I really didn't expect him to," Jackson said. "He did mention that he wanted to come back to watch an actual game. Just him being there was good enough for me."
GoBlueWolverine will have much more on Jackson in the coming weeks.
